Holly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My photography business was birthed out of my tedious hunt as a mother of two to find affordable high-quality services in my community to capture my children’s most prized moments. In 2019, I was inspired to pick up a camera and start creating those memories myself. What began as a personal passion to meet the photography needs of local family and friends, quickly evolved into a mission to partner with churches and organizations across Eastern North Carolina to help preserve their most important moments at an accessible price. By 2023, I had expanded my business to include themed pop-up sessions, newborn’s first 48, and marketing promotions to spotlight local venues. From tender moments to milestone celebrations, I’ve loved capturing life’s most prized chapters. Holly Byrd Photography is about making timeless photography accessible to families of all backgrounds, and celebrating the faith that sustains us, remembering that every moment is a gift from God.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I launched my business when both of my children were under the age of two, so I wouldn’t describe the journey as seamless. However, it has been incredibly rewarding. As any working mother of toddlers can attest, balancing the demands of motherhood with a growing business is no small task. The central challenge I’ve faced in growing my business has been managing childcare alongside bookings, editing, and travel, all while maintaining the momentum needed to build my portfolio.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a photographer, one of my favorite things to create is fun, themed mini sessions that bring out the imagination and personality of the families I work with. These sessions go beyond standard portraits—I design unique, creative setups tailored to a specific theme, season, or idea, allowing families to step into a playful, memorable atmosphere. Whether it’s a whimsical holiday setup, dreamy floral backdrops, or vibrant seasonal themes, my mini sessions are designed to capture joy, connection, and creativity in a way that feels completely unique.

What makes my work stand out is the attention to detail I put into every session. I carefully plan each theme with props, backdrops, and lighting to create an experience that feels special and one-of-a-kind. My goal is to make every session fun, relaxed, and full of personality so families walk away with more than just photos—they leave with memories of a truly enjoyable experience. These creative mini sessions are not only a way to celebrate life’s moments but also to give families something they can look back on for years, all while staying affordable and accessible. It’s this blend of creativity, personal connection, and affordability that makes my work truly unique.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most significant lesson I’ve learned is the way God unveils new dreams and passions. When I began growing my family, I never anticipated discovering such a deep sense of creativity and purpose. Yet, through my obedience and willingness to step out in faith, I have witnessed God work in powerful ways, guiding me to serve my community and revealing the blessings that come from trusting in His plan.
