Daily Inspiration: Meet Jonathan Bunn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Bunn.

Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Twenty years ago, my journey in real estate began in the Washington, D.C. market, fueled by a deep interest in investing. I was fortunate to learn under a few of the most respected brokerage leaders in the industry, an experience that shaped my understanding of the business and set the foundation for what was to come.

In 2016, I returned home to North Carolina with a vision—to combine my passion for coaching and developing agents with the invaluable lessons I had learned. That vision took shape at my dining room table, where I started Costello Real Estate in the Triangle with just a couple agents. What began as a small group committed to growth has since evolved into a thriving brokerage with 300 agents across our Raleigh and Charlotte offices.

But what truly sets Costello Real Estate apart isn’t just the numbers—it’s our culture. From day one, we’ve been committed to building an environment where agents feel heard, supported, and empowered, not just another name on a roster. We’ve created a collaborative and growth-driven culture, where agents have a voice and are equipped with the tools, mentorship, and opportunities to build a business they’re proud of.

Growth for growth’s sake has never been the goal. Our mission has always been about creating continuous opportunities—helping agents grow not just as professionals but as people and business owners.

At Costello Real Estate, we also believe in using our platform to make a meaningful impact. Locally, we’re involved with various charities that support our communities. Globally, we partner with The Shine The Light Initiative, an organization that builds homes for families in the Dominican Republic, ensuring that the success we create together reaches beyond our industry.

From those early days around the dining room table to leading a growing, purpose-driven brokerage, our foundation remains the same: a culture of excellence, a commitment to agent success, and a passion for making a lasting difference.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Breaking into the Triangle market was no easy task. As a new brokerage with no established brand recognition and being personally unknown by most, attracting agents and clients in the beginning was incredibly challenging. No one knew who we were, and building trust in a competitive industry took time. Instead of focusing on quick wins, we committed to developing agents, fostering strong relationships, and proving our value through service and results. By staying true to our mission and surrounding ourselves with great people, we slowly built momentum, and over time, that dedication turned into lasting growth.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is creating a healthy and powerful environment where people can grow both personally and professionally. I believe in developing agents beyond just sales—helping them build businesses they’re proud of while feeling supported, valued, and equipped for success. Culture is everything, and when people feel empowered, they thrive. But our impact goes beyond real estate. We are committed to making a difference in our local communities and internationally, partnering with organizations like Shine The Light to help build homes in the Dominican Republic. Success isn’t just about numbers—it’s about people, purpose, and lasting impact.
