Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason & Kate Douek.
Hi Jason & Kate, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We started back in 2014 when Jason surprised Kate with her first professional camera. We started doing fun shoots for friends that trickled into small paid shoots and eventually our first wedding and keep building from there. We have now photographed hundreds of families, seniors, business, and over 350 weddings nationwide.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been semi-smooth. I think with every business, there are learning curves and bumps along the way. Our biggest was taking the leap to go from it being a part-time business after our full-time jobs to our full-time business with no buffers. It took 7 years from the start of our business, but we took the leap in 2021, and it has been a fulfilling and fun ride so far, and we aren’t looking back.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in Portraits and Weddings. We pride ourselves in taking true-to-you photos. We love to keep our colors vibrant how you would see them straight out of camera or with the naked eye. We strive to do less posing and get more natural reactions, especially when it comes to our weddings. No two weddings are the same, so their photos should reflect that.
For our portrait work we are constantly experimenting being as creative as possible. We have a passion project we started back in 2019 to work with as many Redheads as possible. As being a redhead myself (Kate), I was bullied in school and treated different just because of the color of my hair. Now redheads are glorified or sexualized. So, we started the project to show the uniqueness of redhead and to show that they have beauty and strength even in their rarity and that there is so much more to us than the color of our hair.
Any big plans?
To continue to expand our business and look for more unique ways to make our business stand out from others. To keep thinking outside the box. We hope to get more business all across the state of North Carolina as well as all around the US and the rest of the World. We really live by the go Big or Go home mentality.
