Daily Inspiration: Meet Kelly Byrd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Byrd.

Kelly Byrd

Hi Kelly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Atlanta but moved to Upstate New York when I was in 6th grade. I had a pretty normal childhood. I played sports and was into art (mostly painting and ceramics). I have two brothers, one older and one younger, so I was very protected! I graduated high school and attended a community college where I earned my associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. I moved to Charlotte shortly after to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at UNCC. I met my now husband in college at a bar and we ended up dating for 5 years before getting married. After graduating, I taught for 7 years and loved it, but decided to stay home after having our son in 2019. Stay-at-home mom’s life was better than I had ever imagined, and although challenging at times, I was loving it! We then had our second son in 2022, and he has brought so much joy to our family!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge has been balancing mom’s life and work life. My first priority will always be my kids, but I truly enjoy creating content, so I try to find the time to do it all! There are days I think I have it all figured out; I get everything done and was able to be present with my kids; then there are the days where I get absolutely nothing done. I think facing obstacles and challenges along the way pushes us to learn and grow so we can become a better version of ourself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a content creator on social media. Once I became a stay-at-home mom, I started realizing just how fast the days were going, so I started documenting everything! I quickly fell in love with photography, and that’s when I started to look into content creating. My social media at the time was focused mostly on fitness, lots and lots of selfies! Although I was still very much into health and fitness, I knew I wanted to focus more on motherhood, so that’s the direction I started to take my page. I am proud of the community that I have built; being able to connect to so many other moms that can relate to my content or what I’m going through is the coolest thing!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think the best way to find a mentor or just networking, in general, is to reach out to those that inspire you. If someone is doing something you like and would love to do yourself, reach out to them and ask them what they did to get to where they are and if they have any advice for you. You can’t sit around and wait for opportunities; you have to put yourself out there and take risks that may make you uncomfortable but that will push you to grow and accomplish your goals. I have reached out to so many content creators, asking for advice, and have learned so much by doing so. I have made so many connections and friendships by doing this as well.
