Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Robinson.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Coated in Polish actually started back in 2020, right in the middle of COVID. Everything was shut down — schools, salons, everything — so I couldn’t start my nail tech training yet. But I still wanted a way to express my creativity, so I started designing press-ons from home. It was just me, some polish, and a whole lot of ideas. I used that time to really explore the design side of nails and figure out my own style.
By 2022, I was finally able to take the next step and go to school. I worked during the day and went to nail school at night — it was a grind, but I had so much support from my family and my biggest cheerleader, my daughter. She kept me motivated through every late-night class and every tired morning.
After graduating, I jumped straight into taking clients and moved into my first studio later that same year. It was such a full-circle moment — going from designing press-ons at my kitchen table to creating art for clients in my own space.
What started as a creative escape during lockdown turned into something so much bigger. Coated in Polish became my passion project, my business, and honestly, my one of my happy places.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! It’s been a lot of learning as I go — especially when it comes to running a business. Balancing being a mom, working, and building Coated in Polish can get hectic. Some days it feels like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get it all done.
I’ve had to figure out the business side along the way — scheduling, marketing, keeping everything organized — all while still trying to stay creative. It’s been a challenge for sure, but it’s also been such a learning experience. Every step has taught me something new.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in natural nail services — manicures, structured manicures, and Gel-X — with a focus on healthy nails and long-lasting results. But where I really come alive is nail art. I love creating designs that show off personality and style, and I’m especially proud of my character art. Bringing animated or comic-inspired designs to life on tiny canvases is my absolute favorite.
What sets me apart is the experience I give my clients. You don’t just get your nails done — you get me. I’m a little sassy, glitter-obsessed, a total Marvel fanatic, and someone who genuinely cares about connecting with people. My clients know they can sit down, relax, laugh, and leave feeling not only polished, but lifted up too.
What’s next?
I definitely want to keep growing my social media presence and continue leveling up my character art skills. I’d love to collaborate with polish brands one day and become a brand ambassador and possibly collaborate with someone for a product line — that’s a big goal of mine.
The biggest challenge is staying consistent and confident in my work, but I’m learning that growth comes from showing up, even on the days when I doubt myself. I’m excited to keep creating, connecting, and seeing just how far Coated in Polish can go.
