Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisette Fee.
Hi Lisette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Lisette Fee has been creating and designing jewelry for over twenty years. Lisette began her apprenticeship at a silver smithing repair shop along with assisting professional jewelers in the field then she moved on to acquiring her metalsmithing degree from East Carolina University. Lisette currently creates out of her home studio; she sells her jewelry online and travels and sells her creations across the state of North Carolina. Lisette has assisted in a course at Penland School of Craft and has taught entry level jewelry and metalsmithing at Emerge Gallery.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a jeweler for over 20 years, I’ve faced many hurdles but the biggest one is my own ego and inner struggles.
Being your own boss requires a level of motiviation and discipline. Fortunately I love working for myself. The Ego is the part you have to get over and just be yourself. Believe in yourself even when you keep getting denied opportunities or recognition.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Adornment has a unique history with animals. Since the beginning of human culture, we have utilized animal remnants to adorn our bodies. It is a ritual for humans to adorn the body with what we believe are spiritual objects connecting us to the divine. This connection with the animal kingdom has evolved over time. My jewelry celebrates this age-old relationship between animals and humans.
Each collection of Eilisain Jewelry is inspired by the natural world, whether that be through animal bones or found objects or with the moon and plant life.
Individuals wearing my jewelry can display the beauty and strength of these totem animals: wisdom, strength, agility, adaptation and patience. The wearer then holds these same qualities channeling the power of the animal.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe luck is something that is truly set up by all the small risks and actions that you take.
Luck is when you believe in yourself and help others and continue to create from a point of inspiration and joy.
