Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Elizabeth Marvin
Hi Mary Elizabeth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an artist, speaker, and all-around creator.
My work is internationally recognized in both the fine art and commercial sectors. My paintings are highly coveted by both private and public collectors and have been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries. I’ve received several prestigious artist residencies, including ones at the Vermont Studio Center and the Burren College of Art in Ireland.
My artwork also happens to feature prominently in commercial, residential, and hospitality designs, and has appeared in magazines, films, and television shows. High-quality reproductions of my art can be found at major retailers like Horchow, Neiman Marcus, Pottery Barn, and Williams Sonoma, among others.
I think that creative expression is a vital means of remaining clear, connected, and resilient in our constantly changing world!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In my 20s I underwent 11 hours of life-saving brain surgery. Before the operation, doctors asked me to consider whether they should use extraordinary efforts to keep me alive if the operation was unsuccessful. Out of nowhere I answered, “If I can’t paint, pull the plug.” Painting was the most joyful thing I did on weekends… after I recovered I knew I needed to align with my true passion, painting! Fast forward to today, collectors, art consultants and interior designers seek my distinctive, meditative abstract paintings. My art has been on tv, in movies, in museums, etc. Creating art remains an integral part of my being.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am best known for art that creates a “reset” for people. Modern life is complicated and we are constantly bombarded with information. My art takes you out of that stream and into a place of sanctuary and calm.
What are your plans for the future?
I have multiple wall art reproduction collections available from prominent retailers but I am nurturing two big dreams: one, to have the first artist-inspired wall art collection in the home furnishings industry. There are many collections out there that are curated and branded by A-list interior designers but there is no collection from an actual artist let alone one like me who is so top-selling in the industry. My other dream is to show my original artwork in my childhood museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum, in Hartford, CT.
