Daily Inspiration: Meet Morgan Dreese

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Dreese.

Morgan Dreese

Hi Morgan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has been a part of me as long as I remember. I think it was due to my hearing problem as a child. I was forced to look at the beauty around me. I guess at one point; I found paper and, started putting down all the beautiful things I saw around me. As time went on, my ability grew and became the thing that people identified to me. When I started reaching my high school years, even after winning both State and National awards, I didn’t want to identify or purse art anymore. Starting my college career as a business major. As college went on I knew where my talent was, and that I wanted to choose a career that I could use my abilities. That is when I got my under grad in textile and went on to get my masters in Fashion Design in Milan, Italy.
I stayed and worked as a fashion designer in Milan for another year at which time my Visa ran out. I found my self back in the USA, and not longer after that met my husband. Now as a mother and wife, I found myself back to my roots. My passion is to explore my ability and see where that will take me. Now with the confidence to drive my self as an artist, I cant wait to see what the future holds.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is no smooth road to becoming an artist. It is through this process that we learn and grow. I recently overcame a significant obstacle, Well let me repeat that, I am going in the right direction at least. Having started my business in Chapel Hill, NC, I have built my name and most of my customer base there. Approximately two years ago, my husband took on a new position that required us to relocate to Greensboro, NC. I was in the middle of shipping out two 60x40s to Vegas at that point. Meanwhile, reposition my entire studio into a small bedroom. The studio I had before was on the 2nd floor of our garage, which had been refurbished. Another hurdle was how I was going to build my name here and start establishing a customer base.

Getting out and being vocal about who I was as an artist was the first step. Since people connect with people, when they buy art, they are also buying you. After showing them my art, I would convince them to join my social media. Thus, they will be able to see what you are painting all the time, and I then started contacting galleries in my area. Now I have my work shown here in the Grandover Gallery here in Greensboro. I am still making my way, stroke by stroke.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am speaking about my commission-based business. It’s my specialty to take any room, any style of art, and create that show stopper painting that has personal meaning to it.  Most of us want to follow the latest trends, but we want a painting that stimulates a positive feeling. My background in design allows me to incorporate your style into whatever makes you happy.

Regarding my paintings that I paint for myself or to possibly sell.  In the same way as my customers, I am drawn to places that give me positive feelings. When I was a child, my parents could not keep me away from the water.  There is both energy and movement in water.  However, water also brings a sense of tranquility and inner peace.

In my paintings, you’ll find water covering the whole canvas, to the crashing waves of the beach. Lakes, beaches, waterfalls, and all the other beautiful bodies of water I can find are included in my water landscapes.  As humans, I believe we are naturally drawn to water, since water makes up the majority of our makeup.

My collection also includes the human figure.  Drawing and painting figures has been a part of my life since I can remember.  It is my pleasure to paint anything, and I love each challenge that comes my way.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Greensboro, it is a city with a touch of the country. I live right out side of Greensboro, in Summerfield, so yes it is lot more country where I am. Which I love having my ponds and lakes around me for inspiration. I am speaking of the city of Greensboro it has touches of green all over the city, and with connecting walking paths. With all the colleges all over the city, we have eclectic food and shops. The locals are back to my roots, with the southern hospitality; where greeting a stranger is an everyday occurrence.
