Nelvia Bullock
Hi Nelvia, thank you for joining us today. We would love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2016, my family and I made the decision to relocate from San Francisco to Charlotte. Our daughter was just 9 months old at the time, and I chose to stay at home for a year to take care of her. It was an exciting but challenging time as we embarked on building a home and establishing ourselves in a new city.

During the process, we encountered some areas of opportunity with our realtor. The realtor appeared too busy to give us that white-glove care and attention, so naturally, I took matters into my own hands. I began delving into the intricacies of the real estate industry, eager to learn more about the craft. Motivated by this newfound passion, I made the decision to obtain my real estate license, and from that point on, I have never looked back.

As I immersed myself in the world of real estate, I found myself increasingly inspired to change the narrative. I wanted to make a difference and provide the kind of extraordinary service that would wow people.

Fast forward to the present day, and I am proud to say that I have built a successful career in real estate. I have formed a team and established myself as a top-producing agent with a well-documented track record. Moreover, I am honored to be with the number one brokerage in Charlotte and nationwide. This affiliation has proven instrumental in my growth and development, all while providing value for my current clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path I’ve traveled to reach my current position was not glamorous, to say the least. I must honestly admit that I failed my real estate exam multiple times before finally passing. Each time, I received a printout with my picture on it, emblazoned with the word “failure.” It was undeniably frustrating, but I was determined not to let it deter me.

Once I obtained my license, I started from the bottom. I found myself selling rundown homes in undesirable locations that required extensive renovations. The buyers I worked with often lacked the qualifications and financial resources necessary to buy a home; however, coaching buyers like this helped me develop the systematic approach we use today for onboarding. It was a challenging and grueling process, but I refused to give up.

Today, I am grateful for every opportunity and every client I have the pleasure of working with. I now sell a substantial number of luxury homes, a testament to my growth and perseverance. I never take these achievements for granted, and I appreciate the trust and support my clients place in me.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being new to Charlotte in 2016, I found myself in a city where I knew only a handful of people. As a stay-at-home mom, I was not only focused on raising my baby, but I was also in the midst of building a new home. While it would have been easy to get caught up in the process of designing and decorating our new home or take my time adjusting to our new life, I chose a different path.

Instead, I hit the ground running and swiftly established a referral-based real estate business. I worked countless hours, hired professional development coaches, and sought out the right mentors to really learn the business. Through hard work and dedication, I managed to become one of the top 500 realtors in Charlotte within a few years. Along the way, I faced additional career challenges, such as balancing my career as a mother of two, navigating the difficulties brought on by a pandemic, and even staying focused while weathering a looming recession. However, my determination to succeed was always greater than any excuses that could have held me back.

Moving to Charlotte turned out to be one of the best decisions for my family. It allowed me to build a strong and fulfilling career that complements my husband’s executive-level VP role. This has provided us with the means to live the life of our dreams and raise our children in an environment filled with abundant resources and opportunities. These experiences are shaping our children into incredible individuals, and we are grateful for the chance to give them the best possible start in life. I am most proud of the life we have built, the stability that comes with it, and the continued efforts of our family legacy.

What matters most to you? Why?
I am most proud of being a mother; my children are my greatest life work. They are the reason why I push myself to be the greatest version of myself each day when I get out of bed. I know that I only have one choice, and it’s to win. I have to be confident in who I am and everything I do because they call me mom.

Giving back to the communities I serve is deeply rooted in me as a child who was raised on the South Side of Chicago. It’s important for me to pour into others seeking higher ground. I volunteer my time and support a host of noteworthy causes and nonprofits, including Jack and Jill of America, Women’s Impact Fund, Good Friends Charlotte, and the New Generation of African American Philanthropists, to name a few. My enthusiasm for making the world a better place comes from viewing the world in a very optimistic fashion, and it’s an inside job to wake up every morning committed to doing your part.
