Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Moses.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At the age of 15, my family and I moved to North Carolina, from New York. It initially was a really tough time… What my family thought was a good business venture, turned into a flop; we entered the predicament of having a family of seven, and not a whole lot of money to go around. In that difficult time, music became my safe haven songs like “The Cave” by Mumford and Sons inspired me to “keep on, keepin’ on.” I learned that the most important thing, money doesn’t really take part in: the expression of your soul. That’s one thing you can’t buy or sell, and I seemed to find hope in that.
I was decided that I wanted to try my hand at this music thing, and teach myself guitar. So, I learned all the chords upside-down on my brother’s guitar; I’m a southpaw. I sent up a little prayer one day, asking for a lefty guitar of my own for Christmas, and forgot about that prayer. The Sunday before Christmas, a friend came up with a guitar case saying, ” God told me to give this to you.” not aware of my prayer, or the fact that I’d been learning guitar, he selflessly gave me one of the greatest gifts ever, my Fender Telecaster which I play at almost every show.
There’s a Bible verse that says, “A man’s gifts make a way for him”, and I guess that’s true. I’ve been featured on multiple TV shows, played incredible festivals with two of my brothers, and performed on the same stage as icons like BB King, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I’ve just trusted that if it’s meant to be, it will be; that if you can stick with what your hand finds to do, then you can’t go wrong.
Be true to yourself, and who you’re made to be, and the pieces will fall into place. Today, I’m working on officially releasing my first single on streaming platforms, called “Devil’s In The Details” and very excited to see what the future holds.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think anything worth doing is a smooth road. There have been so many times, I’ve almost given up, but something deep inside always tells me that I haven’t finished what I set out to do. It’s a good indicator of when things get tough how much it means to you.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an indie musician. I try to let the human condition shine through in all my songs, so I like to keep them as raw as possible. As far as genre, it’s a blend of some “swampy” blues and classic ’60s rock-Americana.
I also really like playing harmonica in my tunes, but not like your grandpa… I think that’s a big misconception. The subject matter of the songs, I would call, “spiritual fringe music” for people who are done with church but still are looking for a spiritual connection with their Maker, and each other.
It’s kind of a small thing, but some of my proudest moments have been when seasoned musicians have given me the “head nod of recognition”, telling me that I have their respect. Another one of my favorite feelings is, if you are lucky, you can make everyone in the venue stop what they’re doing, and captivate them to the point where when you are done playing, you could hear a pin drop.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am a huge fan of Wim Hof. AKA the Iceman, and his app. I’ve done his breathing exercises, and cold therapy for a few months now, and am never going back! 100% suggest everyone should try it!
One of the best ways I’ve found to deal with stress, which can be a real deal-breaker during a show. Also, my trusty tuner app, don’t know what I’d do without that thing.
