Today we’d like to introduce you to Palayah Yisrael
Hi Palayah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What got me started to where I am today is believe it or not, COVID19. Originally I was studying at the University of Cincinnati to get my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education- Birth- Kindergarten. I was in my junior year and once COVID hit life changed drastically for me. In February of 2020 I lost my mother due to COVID and a long battle of never recovering from a massive stroke in June of 2014. Since I was young, I genuinely LOVED school. I knew that whatever I did in life it would be to continue education or to teach. Once my mother passed away, the passion I had to teach small children died as well. I dropped out of college and moved back home. Coming back home to the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina I had to figure life out. Both my parents being deceased I knew that I had me to fall back on every time. This started the biggest part of my journey to entrepreneurship. Once I officially landed back in Raleigh I studied Natural Hair Care (Loc Specialty) from my sister. I’ve been passionate ever since, and recently enrolled into the Wake Technical Community College- Natural Hair Care Specialist program. I would say being passionate and true to myself and what I love has played a major role in where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth along the way. My biggest adversity that I have encountered is the loss of a lot of family and friends. My parents, grandparents, a childhood best friend, and most recently my brother had taken a toll on my mental health. Being a single mother and always trying to find the right time to go to school, take a training, learn a trade is not the easiest thing to do. The economy and amount of inflation we’ve seen and how it has a direct effect on small business owners. There’s been a lot of trying times, but I live by “tough times don’t last, tough people do”. My brother embodied that quote up until the day he passed. He was th epitome of strong and a great role model. Even in his death he continues to inspire me to keep pushing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When I was five years of age my mother decided to Loc my hair. I had locs for twelve years and at the age of 17 I decided to comb them out. I didn’t realize in those years that I would be so intrigued with natural hair. My whole life I have always been natural. Becoming a natural hair care specialist, my favorite part is knowing and understanding that the root of our being is our health. I specialize in teaching others that the health of the body is directly related to the health of the hair. It is my dream to become a health and hair coach. I am known for maintaining a professional image and a clean workspace all while providing luxurious natural health services to all those Loc’d. I am most proud in every year coming in better, constantly improving, always eager, remaining full of love and passion. What sets me apart from others is no matter what type of day I’m having I show up and show up for myself and others. No one leaves unhappy.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me that others may not know is that I love boxing. It’s truly a way to let out the negative aspects of your life, focus on your breathing and mental health, all while getting a nice workout in. Growing up I had a lot of built up frustrations and the best way I like to get it out is by watching boxing or MMA. The thrill you get from learning be techniques and how to defend yourself from others is something I love to watch and do. Im also into the gym life but due to a constant busy schedule I haven’t been able to be as active as I’d like. I’m also very artistic and OCD when it comes to my work. I have a thing where anything I touch it has to be almost PERFECT.
