Daily Inspiration: Meet Patricia (Burton) Gayle, MBA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia (Burton) Gayle, MBA.

Hi Patricia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am a Global Project Manager for Securitas Inc- supporting a large employer in the Charlotte Market. Part-time, I work with mid-sized companies on branding strategies and marketing. I have a BA in Broadcast Journalism and an MBA in Marketing. My passion is Journalism, and my career is Project Management. My journey started as an college graduate from Augusta, GA, called Paine college. When I started college in my 1st year and second semester, I became pregnant with my son Travis. When I had my son, I always said my life began there. He gave my life meaning and purpose. My goal was to finish school and work as hard as possible to get out of school to raise my son.

Mission accomplished, but the journey was not as easy as most single parents experience. You learn who your village is quick as your life involves so much change. Fast forward, my daughter Cayden arrived 10 years later, still being a single mom. The first time, you can give yourself an excuse the second time; there’s no excuse. You have to deal with your cards. The arrival of my little girl strengthens me. She strengthened me to my core and gave me so much purpose because now my path was so important because I had a little girl looking up to me. One of the most important relationships we forget about is the Mother-Daughter relationship. You are the first example they see, and it became imperative for me to focus on our journey.

Being a single mom of two in a small community was a journey! I still had an older son and cared a lot about how my son saw me. Me being a small town country girl, the stereotypes that are based upon a single mom and people can be vicious, the silent whispers, the gossip because your route is non-traditional is something you have to work through. This is where the Cayden Nicole foundation was created and birthed. I named it after my daughter because her birth and my journey birthed the foundation. I vowed to provide resources and tools to help Single Mothers navigate their way to success. We relocated to Concord- Charlotte area 4 years ago, and I am establishing my brand in the market to be more localized and help Single Mothers in our beautiful state of North Carolina. Today, we have helped over 100 single parents, and I just created a curriculum called “Single Mother Toolkit” I offer a 1-hour session free for single mothers to succeed. In addition, I published my first self-help book Single Mom Don’t Quit. The long-term goal of the Cayden Nicole foundation is to be a haven for Single Mothers and to partner with a local Daycare center to provide emergency Stipends for Single Mothers pursuing their education. Our first charity event will be in 2023, the Jordan year. After all, we are in Charlotte.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The start of my path was not been smooth. I became a Single Mom at 20, pursuing my college degree balancing finishing school, taking classes, and still being a Mom, working jobs centered around being present at games, still having the energy to stay up at night, and the process of getting assistance. It is humbling to seek help when you need it, just being vulnerable to let people in to share your story. Being a professional and the stereotypes based upon being a single mom are some of the most horrible rumors you and your friends hear. You still have to wake up and keep going, and on some platforms working with people that have said the most horrible things, you still have to wake up and continue making yourself successful because none of it matters when it comes to the blessings you birthed. Fast forward to today, my story blessed me to change the lives of single moms. I now have a blended family; I am married to my best friend, my husband David, and my children Travis and Cayden are thriving. Their lives depend on what you create for them, and you never want your children to heal from you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my spare time, I work through my company, SiVart Marketing as a branding manager working to help mid-sized to large companies with branding outside my career. I am a Global Project Manager for Securitas, INC one of the largest Security company in the US and in my role I support a large client in Charlotte. I am excited to bring Cayden Nicole Foundation, Inc to North Carolina in the Concord-Charlotte Market to be an asset to the Single parent community by providing support to help Single Moms become upwardly mobile. In order for communities to thrive the citizens need resources to assist to support their families and that is the goal of Cayden Nicole Foundation. When people say what’s your superpower- it is being a single Mom. I am proud that I get to use my career and passion for creating systems and managing processes to create a comprehensive workshop for single parents and publish my first book to impact Single Moms worldwide.

What set’s me apart from others? In my journey, I am a career Mom and very present in my kid’s life- I have lived the life I am helping other Single Mothers create, and I learned how to juggle; therefore, multiple income streams are important. You can’t afford to have 1 income because your child depends on you. If something happens to one it has a major effect on your family when you are the only provider. I looked at anything outside of my control (child support, assistance) as extra because I made sure I could take care of my child. I came from strong parents, and I have a strong core group of 5 ladies that have been my village. Whether it’s just empowerment or coming to my aid, they have been prominent in my success.

What matters most to you?
My Family & creating a life that I am proud of for myself and my children- I want my children to know life will happen, but you have the tools to create the success you want. I want them to understand that they can only be responsible for what they can control. Now, with that being said, you want to try to make the right choices, but that doesn’t always happen because you are human. I always say, give yourself a day to reflect and hold yourself accountable because where you are is no one’s fault but your own, then re-route and work hard to get where you are going, and learn the strength you have within, that’s the source that will carry you through life.
