Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Abdollahian.
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
From the time that I was 3 years old, I’ve always known that I would be a Hair Stylist.
As a child, I had the opportunity to accompany my mom and my grandmother to their hair appointments. I always loved watching women’s faces light up all over the salon because they felt beautiful and confident.
I fell in love with the “feeling” that was created just as much as I fell in love with the hairstyling.
I was introduced to hair extensions on a job shadowing experience when I was in middle school and knew that I was destined to do extension work.
Once I started offering extensions and consulting with my clients, I realized that women were not just wanting longer, thicker hair but were truly struggling with hair loss and thinning across the board.
They were seeking answers and solutions that they weren’t getting from their PCP or dermatologists.
This led me to become an AMCA Board Certified Trichologist. I wanted to be able to give them the answers and solutions that they weren’t receiving anywhere else.
It brings be so much joy to help my guests feel heard, seen, and of course, confident.
I opened Throne Hair Salon with the mission of helping women “Rediscover their beauty.” I love creating something aesthetically beautiful that brings out my guests’ inner beauty. Sometimes, all it takes is a haircut and good conversation to help someone step out of the salon feeling brand new and remembering what truly makes them special.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any industry, there are learning curves. I have always worked hard and had a growth mindset. I’ve always wanted to learn as much as I possibly can so that I can offer my guests the best experience.
In the past, I’ve worked for employers who wanted to stifle my growth and was once told in my twenties that “I already make enough money.”
I made a decision that day that I would never let someone else put a cap on my success. This led me to become an entrepreneur.
Opening a business isn’t always smooth or easy.
As an artist and a creative person, I thrive behind the chair creating art.
I’ve had to learn a lot about what works for my personal business model, how to juggle being an artist and a leader of employees, taxes, etc. I would say that there’s never one way that works for everyone, and encourage other entrepreneurs to find what works best for them.
Also, delegate out the work that is not your strength. If you aren’t good with bookkeeping, hire a professional. If you aren’t finding time to scrub the baseboards, hire a professional to clean. This frees up the time and space for you to do more of what you thrive in.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in confidence-creating experiences.
Although I’m best known as a Hair Extension Specialist and Hair Growth Expert, I am still excited to create an amazing haircut or a mind-blowing color transformation.
I want to make sure that anyone who sits in my chair feels seen and heard.
I put a lot of time into my consultations so that I fully understand what my guest wants to achieve.
One thing that people appreciate about me is that I am extremely honest. I will always give you the best advice that I have to give.
My clients RAVE over my scalp massages as well. We offer the best hair and scalp treatments that will either put you to sleep or make your toes curl.
In 2020, I released my own hair restoration device to help women regrow their hair and maintain a healthy scalp. I use a multi-therapeutic approach through world-class services and solutions tailored for each guest’s specific needs.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My best advice for anyone starting in this industry is to listen.
Listen to what your guests are asking for. Sometimes it’s a quiet place to relax and get away from their daily chaos and sometimes, it’s a fabulous new hairstyle paired with juicy conversation.
I also would recommend setting up a savings account for your present (continuing education, taxes, emergencies like replacing your equipment, etc.) This is an investment in yourself and your career. I also recommend setting up a savings account for your future (medical emergencies, retirement, travel, etc). This is also an investment in yourself and will prepare you because the years go by much faster than you think.
