Daily Inspiration: Meet Randi Milroy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Milroy.

Hi Randi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
During college, I worked in a tanning salon and after moving to Raleigh in 2008, I wanted to stay in the industry part-time as I had such a great experience with it. For years I offered spray tans to friends and family and naturally, my client base started to grow beyond that from referrals and word of mouth. In 2015, I decided to focus on building the brand and company with the intent to take it full-time (I was working in merchandising in RTP full-time). After a few more years of focused marketing and branding, I was able to leave the corporate world and make Oak City Sunless to the top sunless tanning company in the Triangle. We service all of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill areas seven days a week.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has relatively smooth as I come from a family of entrepreneurs so business comes natural to me and spray tanning and skincare as always been a passion of mine but getting the general public to understand the benefit of spray tanning has been a challenge. It has been portrayed negatively and as a joke in mainstream media (think Ross from Friends). Over time and lots of wonderfully positive clients and referrals, spray tanning has now become the norm for so many. It is still an uphill climb and the industry as a whole improves year to year so I am excited to see where Oak City Sunless can go!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer in-home sunless tanning sessions to the Raleigh-Durham area. We customized spray tans to match our client’s skin tone and desired darkness level. We also provide body contouring services to further enhance the bodies natural beauty. We are known for providing a comfortable and unique experience for our clients resulting in a flawless sunless tan that will last up to 10 days. I am also a multi-certified sunless tanning educator and trainer for other beauty professionals who want to offer spray tan services.
