Daily Inspiration: Meet Rebekah (the Ghost Guide) Carmichael

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah (the Ghost Guide) Carmichael.

Hi Rebekah (the Ghost Guide), please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Being a professional full-time psychic medium with a unique specialization in ghosts was never something I dreamed of doing – let alone actually achieving this with international virility and nearly a million collective followers across my social platforms. Until 2020, I was a professional producer, performer, and playwright. I had worked in many different positions both on stage, back stage, and for the small screen. I lived and worked in a bunch of different spots – Washington DC, Raleigh NC, New York, NY, to name a few – and after a lot of trial and error in many places, I wound up in Wilmington, North Carolina. While still owning a theatrically immersive escape room, I began finding little local jobs here and there in and out of theatre just to meet people and understand the community more. A ghost tour guide was one of many. It was not my first time leading ghost tours, but it would turn out to be one of the most impactful side hustles of my life. In 2019 I shared some paranormal photos on social media asking for explanations only to wake up to 15,000+ new followers. With consistency in posting and answering questions, I amassed 150,000+ followers within a few months. With the pandemic, I found myself unemployed for the first time since I started work. Theatre was no longer a viable way to live and I was barely scraping by once ghost tours opened up again. By the end of the season, I had moved onto a bus and thought my career had truly shifted. I did a lot of reflecting during that time. I thought about my interactions at haunted place and did a lot of meditating and journaling. To try and make sense of things, I began to use my script-writing background to write out little snippets of conversations I thought I could have been having with ghosts. I played the “ghost skits” out and that is what really took off. I met more people who could also perceive spirits. They were able to cross-verify my experiences with information I had never shared with anyone. Over time, I realized that I was developing a talent for communicating with the other side. I’ve since worked with over 2,000 people 1-on-1 with psychic mediumship readings, attended spiritual conferences, led paranormal events, taught workshops and courses, worked with the Travel Channel, and wrote a book “The Not-So-Scary Guide to Ghosts” that comes out world-wide this July. It’s been a fascinating journey!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been interesting to see how my work on the tiny screen with creating skits is directly linked back to my time in the theatre. People would make commentary on my acting, editing, and writing skills very positively and I would joke about social media not being my first time with theatricals. The difference was that I was performing my interpretation of real life occurrences. I started to feel more like a curated character than a person just trying to make sense of the other side. I’m fortunate to have a therapist who has been working with me for so long to keep work and life at a respectful distance from each other. I have also been working on overcoming imposter syndrome. I do my best to try and avoid comparing myself to others while still aiming to be curios and learn from different people’s experiences. The most difficult part of all of this is having put so much of my personal spiritual awakening out there for the masses to judge as they will. Over time, I have since become more private to some of my more personal spiritual experiences. This journey has taught me a lot about making and maintaining self-respecting boundaries!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
There are two posts I shared on Instagram that I feel would answer these questions most comprehensively. You’re welcome to use what I have already written there.

How do you think about happiness?
I live in a little van half the time and treat it as my office most of the time. What makes me happiest is being able to change the view outside my window and work from anywhere. Travel and natural spaces are very important to me and I make a lot of considerations in my life and habits to make each day unique. I love having Wilmington, NC as my anchor city. This place has always been and will always be so special to me.
