Today we’d like to introduce you to Riley Woodell.
Riley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story has really been about following curiosity and being willing to step into unfamiliar spaces. I didn’t grow up surrounded by fashion or have a traditional path into the industry. Instead, I spent years exploring different interests, building my own sense of identity, and slowly realizing that creativity and self-expression were always things I was drawn to.
When I entered modeling, I quickly learned that the industry is about much more than appearance. It’s about adaptability, resilience, communication, and understanding how to tell a story through movement, clothing, and collaboration. Every opportunity has been a chance to learn from different creatives and challenge the idea of what a model can be.
Over the years, I’ve built my career by staying open, taking risks, and putting myself in rooms where I wasn’t always the obvious choice. That mindset has led me to work with incredible designers and publications, walk shows in New York, London, and Paris, and continue growing in an industry that is constantly evolving.
What I find most rewarding about this journey is that modeling has allowed me to combine so many parts of myself: my love for art, fashion, storytelling, and connecting with people. I don’t see my career as a straight line with a beginning and an end, but as something that continues to evolve with every experience, collaboration, and new chapter.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think the challenges are what have shaped the way I approach my career today. Modeling can be an unpredictable industry, and a lot of the work happens behind the scenes: the rejection, the uncertainty, constantly adapting, and learning how to keep moving forward even when things don’t happen on your timeline.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning not to measure my worth by external validation. In an industry where you’re constantly being evaluated, it’s easy to focus on the moments you weren’t chosen rather than the moments where you were. Developing confidence in what makes me unique has been an ongoing process.
There have also been practical challenges that come with building a career in fashion: navigating a competitive industry, creating opportunities for myself, and learning how to advocate for myself while still staying open to growth and feedback. But those experiences have made me more resilient and more intentional about the kind of career I want to build.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the difficult moments because they’ve taught me patience, persistence, and the importance of staying authentic. The highs are exciting, but the challenges are where you really learn who you are.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a fashion model specializing in editorial, runway, campaigns, and commercial work. My career has allowed me to work across a wide range of projects, from high-fashion editorials and designer runway shows to brand campaigns and commercial productions. I enjoy the variety of the industry because each space requires a different type of storytelling, whether it’s embodying a designer’s artistic vision, connecting with an audience through a campaign, or creating imagery that feels authentic and relatable.
A major part of my work is bringing versatility to set. Modeling is about more than simply being in front of the camera; it’s about understanding the feeling behind a project and knowing how to communicate that through movement, expression, and presence. I’ve always enjoyed the collaborative side of the industry and working with creative teams to bring an idea to life.
I’m especially proud of building a career that continues to evolve. I’ve had the opportunity to work with incredible designers, photographers, and publications, while also expanding into different areas of the industry and proving that a model can be both adaptable and long-lasting.
What sets me apart is my combination of experience, curiosity, and genuine passion for the craft. I bring a strong understanding of fashion and storytelling, but I also bring my own perspective and personality to every project. I believe the strongest images come from creating a connection, not just creating a pose. I also think my facial features are generally considered a bit odd but that helps a lot in my industry actually.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout my journey is the importance of trusting my own path. In an industry where comparison is inevitable and everyone’s career unfolds differently, it’s easy to get caught up in someone else’s timeline or measure your success by external milestones.
I’ve learned that consistency, authenticity, and staying open to growth are far more valuable than trying to fit into a specific idea of what success should look like. Some of the biggest opportunities in my career have come from simply continuing to show up, staying curious, and being willing to evolve.
I’ve also learned the importance of knowing my own value. Modeling requires a lot of vulnerability because you’re constantly putting yourself out there, but the more I’ve grown, the more I’ve realized that what makes someone memorable isn’t perfection; it’s the individuality, perspective, and energy they bring.
This journey has taught me patience and resilience, but most importantly, it has taught me to embrace the process. Every experience, both challenging and rewarding, has shaped me into the person and creative I am today.
