Today we’d like to introduce you to Rysheem Jones.
Hi Rysheem, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Brooklyn, NY and was the oldest out of my three younger brothers. We left NY to move to NC when I turned 16 years old. I was the first grandchild to graduate high and college.
I returned back to school following the birth of my son. I loss 7 babies before God blessed me with my son. I battled in court for two years for full custody and the day before my son second birthday I finally was award full custody. My mother passed before meeting her first and only grandchild.
I worked as a Correctional Officer inside a maximum prison and was promoted to a Supervisor for NCDPS for 13 years. I learned throughout my years how not to judge people, but to be kind and respectful. Each of us are battling something daily and who am I to judge someone else actions?
I have written and self-published 5 books and counting. I am currently working on my first tv script. I graduate next summer right before my son 3rd birthday. We will be matching with Cap & Gowns.
As a father my goal is to provide my son with the knowledge and skill that he will need to advance on his journey. I know I will not live forever but my plan is to leave a lasting impact on this world.
My final goal is to inspire the next generation of people to be great at anything they put their mind to.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Things are never meant to be perfect or smooth but what doesn’t break you would only make you a better and wiser person. I once faced homelessness living out of my car back in 2013 for 6 months. I never complained nor did I ever blame anyone. I made the decision to help out at the time a female companion gain full custody over her two daughters and I gave all I had to make that possible.
Fast forward becoming a father hasn’t been easy but it has been rewarding. Life will throw curve balls at you but it’s up to you not to strike out.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I became servsafe certified and was offered a contract through Wake Tech to teach others food safety standards and hospitality tourism skills.
I am passionate about training my two year old how to use the potty. I am known for helping others in need. I have ordained a friend of mine wedding joining two happy souls together.
What set me apart from others is my compassion for people.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk taking is something we as humans do everyday without realizing it. Each day we drive our vehicles we face the risk of getting into an auto accident but we have to drive to work and school.
Living is by far the greatest risk we all take but you risk it all for your loved ones and for yourself.
