Daily Inspiration: Meet Sarka Kocicka

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarka Kocicka.

Sarka Kocicka

Hi Sarka, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, my name is Sarka, and I’m a Czech-born Canadian living in eastern North Carolina with my husband and two daughters, age 10 and 8. After living all over the world – New York City, Tampa, Seoul, Singapore, Australia, Bali, San Francisco, Austin, Vancouver, BC, it’s been wonderful to settle down at the beach.

I have been a yoga teacher since 2013 and am passionate about helping people build strength and mobility through core-based functional movement-based yoga to find freedom and joy on and off the mat. I took my first yoga class at nineteen, but at that time, preferred weight training, so it wasn’t until my mid-thirties that I tried yoga again and totally fell in love!

After diving into my first yoga workshop, I became even more hooked and decided to take my 200-hour alignment-based teacher training in 2013 with Noah Maze. Then in 2020, I added another 200-hr LYT™ Yoga Method with physical therapist and yoga teacher Lara Heimann to learn more about anatomy, physiology, and neurology so I could help people post-surgery with injuries or physical limitations.

Besides teaching heated yoga at Downtown Barre in Morehead City, NC, I work as a Bookkeeper, juggling my yoga business on Instagram and mom life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We struggled to have our first baby, so my friend suggested that yoga might help to de-stress and focus on the present moment, not worry about what I couldn’t control. Something seemed to click as I eventually became pregnant, and it was the most magical thing. Of course, there were many stars that had to align, and I truly believe that yoga was a big one!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Since 2013, I’ve taught many yoga classes in many different studios and cities, plus offer personal training to many clients all over the world. Grateful to be able to offer my teachings on Zoom.

My passion is helping people discover how core work and functional movement on the mat can help in their daily life and recover from injuries and post-surgery. I teach heated yoga now and absolutely love it, still focusing on alignment, strength, mobility work, and flexibility. My passion is helping people discover their unlimited potential and endless possibilities in their yoga practice, encouraging them to try new things like arm balances, inversions, or different flows and drills to build confidence, strength, and empowerment.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice is to go find your people! Find your community of like-minded humans who share the same mindset and goals. And when you do find those people, keep an open mind, be kind and compassionate, and listen with love and enthusiasm. Share, grow, and learn together, and most of all, uplift each other so we can all be the best we can be.
