Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Blount.
Scott, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started growing plants at the age of 11 years old and 50 years later, I am still growing plants, but now rare and exotic plants from all over the world. My nursery offers the largest selection of rare and exotic house plants in the 5-state area and has been in the top 5 nursery and garden centers by the WRA L voter’s choice awards. I built this business on customer service and have been a staple at the state farmers market in Raleigh, North Carolina, for 17 years. I truly have a passion for unusual exotic house plants and enjoy meeting the public, working with them, answering questions, and helping them obtain their wish list plants.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As they say, you have to walk before you run, and it definitely was a challenge. I moved back to my Hometown area to take care of my elderly mother and found myself wondering what I was going to do back home. I was fortunate enough to be able to build a greenhouse and then later obtain a 7 Acre nursery, which has turned into be a very Productive business which I enjoy deeply.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a proprietor of the business, I do everything from customer service maintaining plants’ social media and waiting on customers, Stocking shelves in multiple locations, and servicing our wholesale customers
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I suggest if you truly have a passion for growing plants, you should try to reach out to someone with the similar passion
