Daily Inspiration: Meet Stacy Harden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Harden.

Hi Stacy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m grateful to have grown up in a family that supported my musical and artistic interests, and I was lucky to have exceptional music and art teachers through high school. In 2008, I had the opportunity to attend the North Carolina Governor’s School program and perform in the orchestra, which inspired me to consider pursuing a career in the arts more seriously.

In 2010, I attended Berklee College of Music, where I met Max Jury, who was my assigned roommate. We became good friends and began writing and recording music together, something that continues to this day. I also spent time recording and performing with artists from the Triangle, such as The Ayr Mountaineers (Ella Bertram), SMLH, and Bombadil.

After several years of performing shows, I decided to try my hand at live sound engineering, which lead me to Motorco Music Hall in Durham and eventually the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, where I currently spend most of my time.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Overall, I feel like my progression has gone smoothly, which I attribute mostly to good luck. I never could have guessed that I would end up where I am today, and that makes a lot of the inconveniences along the way feel insignificant.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I spend my time almost equally between the music and visual art worlds. Half the time, you can find me running sound at a show or producing a record and the other half, I might be designing stickers or posters. When it comes to graphic design, I specialize in posters and layouts that reference the style of WPA posters and other National Park posters.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important things I’ve learned so far is how much of a difference it makes to be kind and professional. You never know who you might be working with and what opportunities may come from it.

Stacy Harden is a tremendously talented sound engineer, a consummate professional, who takes great care with the bands who come through the Haw River Ballroom – all of whom feel in such great hands because of his dedication, skills, calmness, kindness, musical expertise and talent under pressure. This is an unflappable, diplomatic, thoughtful solutionist and a wonderul human being. Everyone on staff loves Stacy and we are so grateful that he is part of the team — and such a key figure in the Ballroom. Additionally he has created the most beautiful logos, posters, and stickers, which uniquely illuminate concepts, events and ideas in such a gorgeous way. Stacy is also a truly gifted musician and producer and the list goes on and on. So glad to see such a fantastic yet truly humble person be highlighted, recognized and appreciated- so well deserved. Congratulations Stacy!!
