Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Joseph.
Hi Stacy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Wadadli Dessert Oasis a realized vision of mine. From my early childhood, there has always been a love and respect for food from the growing of the ingredients, harvesting, preparation, cooking/baking, serving, and finally, the consumer’s response. I am very intrigued by culture and the story that goes into each ingredient. I do believe the “where” and “why” is just as important to the “how” is an ingredient utilized. Today, I am formally trained as a pastry chef, but I enjoy all aspects of food creation.
Wadadli Dessert Oasis is a plant-based/ vegan operation located in Asheville. Chef services, catering, wholesale, and retail production are elements of Wadadli.
Our menus are founded on whole-food vegan interpretations of traditional savory Caribbean entrees, artisanal whole foods, savory and sweet pastries, and tropical desserts.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
From the onset, I knew that slow and steady would yield the best results. Wadadli has operated in festivals, catering, farmers markets, and our own sponsored events, and our experiences have provided the space to learn from each interaction and grow. Overall, I would say that it has been a relatively smooth journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a pastry chef specializing in Caribbean plant-based cuisine and desserts. The various patty flavors (many of which feature local ingredients) and carrot cake sandwich cookies are some of our signature items. What I am most proud of is our ability to provide a taste of tropical flavors that I loved during my childhood in Antigua to many people in a healthy manner. I love that our food is well received by the community. I truly value the growers of many of the ingredients that are utilized in the dishes/items.
I believe what sets Wadadli Dessert Oasis apart is the culture and history we bring to food, the knowledge of ingredients from seed to final product, and the love and care that is put into the food.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
This is a great question! I love collaborative work with those who are full of great energy. This could be from local farmers to festival organizers, local shops/eatery, or people who would like to have someone help with meal planning. All are free to contact me at [email protected]. If you are local to Asheville, you can find Wadadli Dessert Oasis at the farmers markets on Wednesday -Saturday.
