Daily Inspiration: Meet Tahaia “Kunny” Brothers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahaia “Kunny” Brothers.

Hi Tahaia “Kunny”, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 10th grade Entrepreneurship class. We had to write a letter about where we see ourselves in 10 years. My goal was to practice real estate. Many of my family members a re licensed . At ECU my major was Finance with a concentration in Real Estate and a minor in Psychology.. Then in 2001, I began my career with Century 21.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In 2008 when the market turned, getting buyers approved was a challenge and Sellers still wanted to sell. I shifted with the market and did several owner financing deals. Instead of blaming the economy, I looked in the mirror and asked myself what I can do different.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I represent buyers and sellers on residential and commercial transactions. I am most proud of being in a career I love and the mindset to negotiate through obstacles.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is going to work with my mom and dad. We had a family business. My father also had a produce stand selling watermelon. When business was slow, my father taught us to go after it. We use to ride through neighborhoods in his truck chanting, “ watermelon, watermelon, red as fire, sweet as sugar…. 3 for $5”. Many would say they get paid next week but my dad still gave them a watermelon. He was such a giver. I think he gave away more than he ever sold. But a valuable lesson he taught us in not being complacent and doing something different …..if plan A doesn’t work shift to plan B to succeed. With a 4th education he taught us more valuable life lessons than any schooling ever taught. He was the best!
