Daily Inspiration: Meet Taralynn Ruiz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taralynn Ruiz.

Hi Taralynn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have been in the EDM scene since the late ’90s, from about 15. At the time, it wasn’t known as EDM and was underground. I attended several warehouse raves then, and you had to know someone to get in. I had listened to this music since the early 90s, starting with Prodigy and later, Tïesto, when he made Trance music. My first club show was Darude in 2004 at Pulse in Rochester, NY. I grew up in Rochester, NY, and moved to Austin, TX, in 2004 when I was 20. I moved to North Carolina in 2012. So, I have been in several scenes over the years. I have seen the evolution of the EDM scene firsthand. We are now in the age of technology, and I recently saw a niche for the type of brand I am growing with the Sub-Low Triangle. I have always promoted for shows, but now it is done differently. Most promotion is digital, whether via email, social media, or a website. It has taken my 20+ years of music scene knowledge and experience to get to where I am now.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life itself is not smooth, but I have not struggled that much to attain the goals that I have wanted to attain. In this particular business, networking is everything. If you don’t maintain the relationships you create and the connections you make, you can quickly fall farther down the ladder than the next person. Sometimes, maintaining those connections is difficult because people go through ups and downs in life outside of work or side hustles, myself included. There is a learning curve involved as the scene evolves too. Things in life, especially technology, are ever-changing. Change is a struggle for a lot of people, including me. I can adapt successfully, even if it takes me a bit longer than others to do so. I am proud of myself for having overcome some of these challenges.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

  • I promote for several production companies in the area, within the EDM scene and community. I also create work digitally, such as the weekly flyers I create and promote for the community. I take many photos and videos and regularly upload them as reels to social media.
  • I want to ensure that people within this particular niche of the Raleigh community feel included, know what events are happening, and provide them with ticket links to ticketed events in one place. This should make it easier for people to plan and execute their chosen events.
  • I am known for being extroverted, outgoing, and otherwise social, and people easily recognize me when I am out. I dress differently, I am authentic with people and, more importantly, kind to people. This community inspires me, and I want to give back to the people in it in whatever way I can find that will serve them well.
  • I am proud of how well everyone works together and supports one another within the community. I am proud that everyone is welcoming and supportive. Any community needs that to be successful. And I am also very proud of myself for taking a chance in the hopes that I would successfully establish a brand.

What sets me apart from others in this community niche is that I do something no one else is doing yet. I am making all of the known Triangle EDM events and ticket links available to the community in one place, and I also added the known east coast festivals.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
Oh wow, that’s a good question. The music industry, in general, will continue to help with growth in cities worldwide by contributing to the venues and companies that support artists and creatives. We will also see an increase in the number of new artists and creatives joining this industry. Music connects people and always has, in a similar way that food connects people. People need music because it helps them feel connected to like-minded people. The music itself can help them understand themselves and others better too. Music is an art, and it is a creative outlet for many. People seek to be connected, understood and accepted.

You can see shifts in EDM, particularly regularly, because it is the most diverse music genre with its many sub-genres. I expect that new sub-genres will be introduced. The current trend has been house music for several years, and we see a shift to drum and bass. This happens every 5 years or so, I’d say. House music is the root of EDM, as that is where other sub-genres have branched off throughout the years. You can expect to continue to see these shifts as the years pass.
