Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Cozart.
Tony, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started at age 13 years old working as a receptionist and shampoo boy in my aunts salon after that I took cosmetology in high school. I got my cosmetology license at age 19 and open my own business Downtown Durham in 1987.
Im 2008. I developed my own haircare line using all the skills knowledge and education, I collected from my first 20 years as a Hairstylist,
our products are use all over the United States including Beauty schools, hair salons, and private homes of our consumers.
My civic responsibility is the opening of a senior salon in the ( Durham center for senior life ) also downtown durham
that was opened April 2024.
this salon is designed for seniors with disabilities and disenfranchised income. It is called the Cozart Xperience senior salon.
Our second venture is what I call reigniting Black Wall Street ; comprised of a community of visionaries , business owners and future entrepreneurs.
the spin off of this reigniting black Wall Street organization is our youth component which is called reigniting Black Wall Street youth explosion; our first event will be Sunday, November 3,2024 Downtown Durham at Black Wall Street.
We will be showcasing our youth Ages 13 through 18
as vendors, educators and entertainment ;
Acknowledging them as our future leaders and entrepreneurs.
We will also be setting up a financial literacy program for our youth and a black Wall Street history class that will be taught city wide and beyond. .
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The rode hasn’t been as much
hard ; as it was LONG
I’ve always had the support of family and friends ; we held my hand thru my life’s journey. Which included 20 years as a substance abuser. With the support of my family and community I have now been clean for 12 years
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a cosmetologist by trade. I received my license at 19 years old in 1987. I specialize in hair care which is totally different than hairstyling ; because of the definition of cosmetology.
The definition of cosmetology is the art and science of hair skin and nails.
I’ve always been concerned about the science of hair which led me to design my own products.
Which Are used all over the United States thru E- Commerce
to help women who struggle with hair or scalp issues.
This is one of my greatest accomplishments I believe that women have enough struggles in life :
and my contribution to the female population is for them to not have to struggle with their hair , this is what I believe set me apart as a beauty professional

There is one thing about my character that most people don’t know ; and that is even though I don’t talk a lot I always listen
