Daily Inspiration: Meet Victoria & Justin Khoury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria & Justin Khoury

Hi Victoria & Justin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We both started in music at a young age. Victoria sang in church, Justin played in rock bands in High School and previously had a band with his sister called The Northerners that had regional success in Richmond, VA. Burn the Breeze was formed a few months ago in March. Victoria and I were playing acoustic shows for the last year but decided our music lends itself better to having a full band. Our musical inspirations are mostly 60’s and 70’s rock bands. We are trying to create music that sounds new but familiar with nods to the era that we love.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The main challenge is having full time jobs while dedicating yourself to music. Studio time, content creation, songwriting, rehearsal, open mics, and shows are all done after business hours. I think most musicians can relate to that. It’s a difficult industry our goal is to make the best music we can and share it with as many people as possible.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Justin has licensed music for Film, TV, and most recently with Adobe for an app. My music was also the centerpiece of a an on ice rock show created by Adam Blake (Director from Disney on Ice) where Adam choreographed figure skater routines to my orginal music and we toured the show in 3 cities, Knoxville, Charlottesville and Richmond. The best feeling is when someone you don’t know tells you how important a song was to them, or they started a relationship because of it, or they used it as their wedding song. That has been my greatest accomplishment in songwriting. We specialize in writing great rock songs. There are not many bands who aren’t 20+ years old making rock music and we aim to provide an outlet for an audience who is yearning for it.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Work ethic. It really comes down to time spent writing, rehearsing and sculpting the songs. I’ve heard somewhere a song isn’t finished when there’s nothing left to add but when there is nothing left to take away. People want to be able to sing to a song and what we look for is feedback from the audience saying I was already singing the chorus by the end of your performance and I was just hearing the song for the first time.
