We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dara Brewton. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Dara, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would absolutely hire me 🙂 I basically launched my travel business because of all the time I spent researching, planning, and taking trips. I can hyperfocus for hours while researching the best restaurants in a location or what the best city in Switzerland is for a digital nomad. I have created trips for friends and family, written e-guides, and created city travel maps for fun in my spare time. So, it seemed like a no-brainer to get certified as a travel advisor with FORA and launch my travel website.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a multi-passionate person who has been writing to pay the bills since 2017. You can find my work published in Insider, Newsweek, The List, and Travelness (just to name a few). I am also an experienced project manager, scriptwriter, actress, and filmmaker. I have been dreaming of being a digital nomad since I started freelancing! My travel business is just the next step in my attempt to fill my working life with my hobbies!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
While I know it’s a bit hypocritical…I think spending all of our time online is what breaks the bonds between people. I know I just launched another online business, but people really do need to get out in the real world and “touch some grass”, as they say. When we are hiding behind our screens, we lose connection, growth, and empathy.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Like every day. I think every creative goes through a daily mantra of thinking nothing will ever work, they aren’t qualified to do *insert thing*, and they should just give up. But you just push through until you get to the part where you get it done, and then you go back to knowing you have what it takes. Or maybe that is just me grappling with my imposter syndrome lol.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Sort of. I can be a bit socially awkward and anxious. I kind of play myself as a role. As an actor, you insert your own feelings, desires, or history into the roles that you play. They contain pieces of you, right? So, in order to get over my anxiety, whenever I have to do something social, I think of it as playing the role of Dara. For some reason, that helps a bunch!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build a huge library and try to fill it with only books that I’ve read. My current “to read” list is so long, it would take a hundred years to read all of the books.
