Today we’d like to introduce you to Alan and Pam Gregory. They and their team shared their story with us below:
In 1987, Paul and Martha Gregory bought a beautiful 113-acre blueberry farm in Currie, NC. Over the years, they not only grew blueberries but with the growth of their family, the farm grew. Soon 138 more acres were added totaling 251, ponds were dug, and an old tobacco barn was relocated and restored into living quarters. Gregory Farms became a place for family and friends to gather. In 2012, Mr. Gregory passed away at the age of 89, but the farm stayed in the family. His son Alan and his wife Pam bought the farm from the family estate in 2016 and began revitalizing it.
They planted new blueberry plants and even started a small vineyard.
Alan and Pam realized the idyllic setting was a beautiful place to share with others, so in 2020, they added The Vineyard Weekends serving their private labeled wines, live music, and food trucks on Saturdays.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes, the farm is naturally beautiful with a 3-acre pond plenty of parking, and we were also so fortunate to find a fabulous winemaker.
As you know, we’re big fans of Gregory Farms and Vineyard. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
In 1987, Alan’s parents, Paul and Martha Gregory bought a beautiful 251-acre blueberry farm in Currie, North Carolina. Over the years, ponds were dug, and an old tobacco barn was relocated and restored into living quarters. Gregory Farms became a place for family and friends to gather. In 2012, Mr. Gregory passed away at the age of 89, but the farm stayed in the family. His son Alan and his wife Pam bought the farm from the family estate in 2016 and with the addition of the 52 acres they already owned they began revitalizing the 303 acres of land.
They made it a thriving working blueberry farm by planting new blueberry plants with a total of 45 acres so far and continue to grow the blueberry farm each year, adding more blueberry acreage, and they even started a small vineyard.
Alan and Pam realized the idyllic setting was a beautiful place to share with others, so in 2017, they opened it up to the public for events and weddings. In 2020, they added The Vineyard Weekends with live music and food trucks on select weekends. They offer 15 different wines: sweet muscadines, semi-sweet reds and whites, dry whites and reds, and, of course, two different blueberry wines. In addition to regular weekends, they have 3 events each year. Mother’s Day in May, Blueberry Harvest Celebration in June, and Fall Festival in October. It’s so relaxing to come to our peaceful farm, grab a glass of wine enjoy the beautiful 3-acre pond, and just take it all in. It is definitely a hidden gem.
