Exploring Life & Business with Becky Hill of Style House Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Hill.

Hi Becky, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started Style House Designs in 2016. Being a mom of 4 I waited until all my kids went to school to really focus on my career after being a stay-at-home mom for 8 years. I was asked to decorate our new 10,000 square foot building at our local church and it completely jump-started my career. One of my very first clients was my now business partner and best friend, Jennifer McCoy. Jen has been with my for almost 5 years. She is also a mom of 4 and waited until her first 3 were in school to get back to work. We have the absolute best time together along with our amazing friends that run our storefront Carrie, Lisa, and Diana. We have 2 guys that work with us as well Robbie and Brandon. They are our go-to guys and tackle anything we throw at them.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Ohhhh, great question! I think there are always bumps along the way in whatever you do in life. Jen and I from the get-go took the roles we have strengths in and ran with them. We never really had a conversation about it, it just happened naturally. We decided we wanted a storefront about a year or so of working together. Our husbands bought a building that we took down to the studs renovated it from the ground up. It was a taxing process for sure, but once we got the right contractor in there it went pretty smoothly overall. We had our storefront in downtown Wake Forest for about. year and a half and the COVID hit. We decided to sell our storefront and move to a smaller space and that is where we still are today.

As far as the design side goes, we have had some absolutely amazing clients and again as in everything, some not-so-great ones. The great ones definitely outweigh the bad.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jen and I absolutely love the design side of our job. We love working with people, being creative, and seeing our vision come to fruition. There is something pretty magical about that! Jen and I are a one-stop-shop. For every job, big or small we have sub-contractors for any and everything who we work with daily. We do commercial and residential spaces and love both for different reasons. One thing that makes us stand out is our passion for design and working with our clients to make their homes or workspace special, authentically theirs, and a place they enjoy spending time. As well as spending time with our team. We love them all like family and there is never a lack of laughter. We always try and make what we do fun

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Jen and I opening the store was for sure the biggest risk we have taken. It was a 4000 square foot space that we had to fill with furniture, home decor, lighting, etc… We furnished the entire space on our own dime and with us only have been in business a year or so at that point it was a lot financially.
