Exploring Life & Business with Ben Strunk of Triangle Treasure Hunt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Strunk.

Hi Ben, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My wife Whitney and I started Triangle Treasure Hunt after participating in a similar scavenger hunt activity in Florence, Italy in 2018. It holds a special place in our hearts as we got engaged at the end of the hunt. After coming back to Raleigh, we decided to create our own treasure hunts and created our treasure hunt business. We have grown to offer walking team scavenger hunts in a number of unique locations within the Triangle area of North Carolina and are looking to add more in the future.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We had been slowly growing our treasure hunt offerings for a little over a year and then ran into the COVID pandemic. Just like every other in person entertainment option, we had to shut down operations for all of 2020 and part of 2021. This certainly stopped our momentum, but we are thrilled to be back up and running and have worked to increase our treasure hunt offerings this summer through strategic moves and hiring staff members.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We offer walking team scavenger hunts that challenge your mind…and feet to find clues, solve puzzles, and crack codes while exploring some of the most unique areas of the Triangle in North Carolina. Teams receive a treasure map and use it to search the area by foot for different murals, signage, statues, etc. identified on the map. The team that completes the challenges and unlocks the treasure chest first wins the grand prize.

We facilitate public treasure hunts where anyone can register their team for the hunt and private treasure hunts for corporate groups, birthdays, and other events. We partner with a variety of local business, city organizations, and municipalities for sponsorships, prizes, and starting/ending locations.

We love providing an activity that encourages people to explore together! Our treasure hunts are perfect for team building and get people moving along the way.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We love that Raleigh has so much to offer from restaurants, breweries, parks, entertainment and more, but still feels like a small town with culture and comfort.

We are hoping that Downtown Raleigh will be revitalized with new entertainment and hospitality options as a number of restaurants and other businesses have closed during the pandemic.
