Hi Bobbi Linn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
First, I want to thank Voyage Raleigh for the opportunity to share my story. This experience feels both humbling and exhilarating, and I’m truly grateful!
My journey led me through a beautiful blend of family priorities to an unexpected entrepreneurial adventure. While working full-time in the accounting department of a manufacturing and import company, I became pregnant, and circumstances led me to step away from that career to focus on raising and homeschooling our child full-time. Once our son graduated, I found myself with more time on my hands and a desire to contribute financially to our household. I began searching for a position where my skills and abilities would be best put to use. Re-entering the workplace at age 55 with an 18-year gap on my résumé produced zero offers.
After two years and through much prayer, I felt led to launch my own business as a mobile loan signing agent. The opportunity to help people with important documents—such as real estate closings, powers of attorney, title transfers, and more—while giving me a sense of purpose and a boost to our family finances was a perfect fit. What began as a simple side venture quickly blossomed, thanks to wonderful opportunities that came my way. Because of word-of-mouth referrals, repeat clients, passion, extended education, hard work and Google reviews, my small business has expanded and is prospering beyond what I could have ever envisioned. Recently, our son has begun working alongside me, managing non-notarial assignments and performing witnessing when in need, which is truly another blessing!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Financing the business took a full year and a whole lot of patience. With every careful dollar invested in notary fees, loan-signing certification, office and mobile equipment, and essential supplies was a leap of faith. In those early days, doubt crept in—Can I really do this? Am I cut out to run my own show? Can we really afford this adventure?—making it harder to show up with the confidence I wanted every signing to reflect. Through prayer and lots of hard work, I gained the knowledge and wisdom to press on, growing steadier and more assured with time. The most frustrating hurdle remains the oversaturated notary loan-signing industry, where many agents accept reduced fees that fail to honor the significant time, money, and effort required. I choose to see it as a challenge I can meet by confidently charging rates that reflect my expertise and dedication.
