Exploring Life & Business with Brandon Doman of Weigh Safe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Doman.

Hi Brandon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a husband to a wonderful woman, named Alisha. We have 6 children, 2 girls, and 4 boys ranging from 20 years old down to 6 years old.

I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where I was the 6th of 7 children in my family with 3 older brothers that demanded my best. All four of us brothers played football on scholarship at BYU (Brigham Young University). I played QB there from 1998-to 2001, after which I played in the NFL for 3 seasons for the San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, and Washington Redskins (now Commanders). I then coached football as a QB coach and offensive coordinator for my alma mater BYU.

10 years ago, I hung up the cleats and I partnered in business with my older brother Bryce. We own 3 businesses together – www.weigh-safe.com, www.dominatorhoop.com, and www.landecor.com. I am the President of Weigh Safe, where I run the day-to-day business. This has been a fast-growing company that has required 100% of my focus and time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Casualness or complacency presents big obstacles and challenges. Also, making sure that we have the right people in the right places doing the right things has proven to allow us to overcome most obstacles. Although, having the wrong people in the wrong places doing the wrong things is a pitfall that often presents the biggest challenges for a business.

Lacking knowledge in the most critical areas of need and focus has also been a challenge. Continuous improvement and creating a continuous learning environment for myself and those around me is hard to do too.

Funding growth as a privately held family-owned business has also presented many financing challenges. Sometimes there just isn’t enough conventional lending to fund the needed growth. How do we grow prudently, without losing control?

Weigh Safe is a fast-growing, family-owned, and operated business based out of Lindon, Utah. We are constantly looking for opportunities to grow and develop new innovative products that continue to provide a towing peace of mind. Weigh Safe is a member of the Leap Innovations companies.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have learned that “If your mind can conceive it and your heart can believe it, then you can achieve it.” I have also learned that preparation + opportunity = Success. Life always provides opportunities, which are limited by our own preparation. I have also learned that our success is enhanced by the people we choose to surround ourselves with. I want to be around people of “GRIT” that possess the internal motivation to succeed.

I have also learned that work is secondary to faith and family. I find joy and happiness through work relationships and high achievement, but there has been no work-related or worldly achievement that has provided more joy and happiness than having a family and seeing their successes.

Having an understanding of who I am and the role I play in this life as a husband and father has provided a heavenly connection that has provided direction. I am grateful for this and the influence this knowledge has on my professional outlook and efforts.
