Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgette Clifton.
Hi Bridgette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an NP for 11 years, an ER nurse for 5 years before that. When I started as an NP, I was very serious, private, didn’t let patients or coworkers into my personal life at all. When I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter, I had a few interactions that made me realize that people were much more comfortable with me when I seemed more “human” to them. At the particular facility I was working in at the time, nurses that were very “stand-offish” (I later learned intimated), suddenly became much more comfortable with me the bigger my belly got, and they could see me as just a mom. After that, I made a point to start letting people know more about my personal life and see the more authentic side of me. Later, I ended up in several high-level leadership positions, managing lots of people, and realized that my gift was making people feel “normal” about their crazy, chaotic lives. I had many employees going through divorces, postpartum, perimenopause, infertility, caring for sick family members, etc and allowing them to have moments when they could be their messy, authentic selves resulted in them being more efficient and effective employees. A little over a year ago, I realized how much I hated being a corporate executive so I quit my job, took a couple of months off and then took a position in a men’s health clinic that I planned to just do for fun until I decided what I wanted to do next. My patient panel grew quickly and then they started asking if I would see their wives, sisters, etc. One thing led to another and I ended up opening my own practice.
My goal is to make healthcare accessible, easy, and truly patient-centered. I have categorized my specialty as “Performance Health”, thus the name Health & Performance. I do see a lot of athletes and people who would consider themselves “bodybuilders” but performance isn’t just limited to athletic performance. A large portion of my clients are business owners. The majority are parents. Performance includes athletic, professional, sexual, relational, & cognitive. Anywhere you need to show up in life, it’s my goal to help them show up in their most optimal and authentic state. My office is inviting and we are somewhat informal. I’ve found this helps people relax and feel comfortable opening up and discussing very vulnerable topics.
I am a mom first, and I’m okay with my patients knowing this. Most of them have met my youngest daughter. I welcome patients bringing their kids, and one of my future plans is to develop a postpartum program, so we’re very kid/baby friendly.
I coach middle school track, cross country, and cheer (I’m not a cheerleader but I do their strength and mobility training). I’m very passionate about youth sports.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had a tremendous amount of support from my patients, friends, employees, and community which has made this as smooth as possible. I feel strongly that this path was divinely inspired and that I simply answered the call to meet a need in our community so every challenge has been met with a solution that was already waiting. It has certainly been stressful and overwhelming at times but inspiring at the same time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about StrikePoint Health and Performance?
I am a Nurse Practitioner, my practice is a performance health clinic specializing in hormone replacement and optimization and holistic medical therapies. I believe in treating the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, and allowing patients to maintain agency in their own health care decisions. I see my role as removing barriers to access and information, diagnostics, and treatments, validating patients experiences, and helping them find their own path towards optimal health and performance.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Part of my “brand” is that I am an open book, I believe telling my stories helps others find their own voices and the courage to own their own stories. Because of that, not much would surprise most people. I don’t often share, however, that I am a Reiki practitioner, although I have felt the pull to add this to my practice so it may be something I share in the near future.
