Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Boggs.
Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my career journey at Aveda institute chapel hill, down on Franklin Street. I had a major love/hate relationship with beauty school (most of us do) but I finally graduated. My grandma was a hairstylist and since she was my person, I followed behind her. I worked at a pretty cool commission salon in Burlington and built up a clientele and made some amazing friends I still have today. But then I got bored of it and needed a break from hair, so I quit and decided then I’d get any other job that was as far away from the industry as I could. As we can see, the stars were NOT lined up with that vibe so not a single business called me back. Then quarantine happened. Boom, I’m stuck at home (thank god I loved my roomie) and luckily, she was also a stylist so our hair stayed done during the lockdown. Sorry, everyone else! I’m honestly glad quarantine happened because it sparked my creativity again and I really learned about myself and got to know ME. I knew I didn’t want to go back to commission and work for someone else so I searched out suites or booth rentals and that’s when I found Don Lee, the owner of Salon and Spa Suites of Hillsborough. And when I tell you this man changed my life, he changed my life. He’s helped me grow as a businesswoman and take me under his wing and truly show me the ups and downs of owning your own salon. Shout out to my mom too because she’s been my number one fan and I couldn’t have done it without her. (Thanks for listening to me during my meltdowns). I couldn’t be happier being where I am today and I’m so thankful for the hard lessons I’ve learned down the road. Owning your own business is such a blessing even with all the behind-the-scenes work. And also, being able to make people feel confident, beautiful, hot, whatever you want to go with is what makes it all worth it. Building relationships with your clients and sharing your lives and stories with them is a connection unlike any other. Hairstylists really do become your BFF after a while.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not! Ask my mom, she’s listened to me cry and throw a fit more than she’d like to. Especially opening during a pandemic and working with each individual’s comfort levels takes a huge toll to making them feel safe in your business. Also, hair can be a challenge just on its own. Clients can be difficult. But it’s what you sign up for going into this career. You figure your ways to navigate and how to handle the situations but you have to go through the hard times to come out on top.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a salon suite owner located at Salon and Spa Suites of Hillsborough. I’m a licensed professional hairstylist, graduated from Aveda institute chapel hill 9 years ago. I specialize in blonding, color, and hand-tied hair extensions. I love the one-on-one vibe of having your own suite and your clients feeling comfortable and secluded. Our conversations are top-notch with the privacy. I became certified in hand-tied back during the lockdown and it’s one of the best moves I’ve made in my career. It elevates the look and offers a truly luxurious service. Blonding is another main service I offer. If you want blonde, call me.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Having sleepovers at my friend Margaret’s house every night during the summer. I basically lived at her house. Swimming, taking the golf cart out, making up dances and cheers, blasting N’Sync. We had a cool group of friends and we were inseparable. If I could go back to one of those nights/days just once, I’d be there QUICK.
