Today we’d like to introduce you to Cayla Morris.
Hi Cayla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Polly’s Petal Patch began long before it ever became a flower farm. Years ago, my father and I used to order flowers for my grandmother, Polly. She absolutely adored them. After she passed, I discovered a photo album filled with pictures of all the bouquets we had sent her over the years. It was a quiet reminder of how deeply flowers had always been woven into my life and my family’s love.
In 2024, my life took an unexpected turn when I became very ill. During one of the hardest and most uncertain seasons I’ve ever faced, my dad wanted to give me something hopeful to hold onto. I had always dreamed of having a flower garden, and he decided to make that dream a reality. With his love for carpentry and an incredible amount of care, he built me a massive garden—far bigger than I ever imagined.
As the flowers began to bloom, so did something inside me. The garden became a place of comfort, healing, and peace. I quickly realized I had more flowers than I could ever use myself. Throughout my illness, my friends had shown up for me in countless ways, and I wanted to give something back to them. I invited them to come pick their own flowers, simply to enjoy the beauty and joy they brought.
That’s when Polly’s Petal Patch truly came to life—a u-pick flower farm rooted in love, resilience, and gratitude. I named it in honor of my grandmother, whose joy for flowers started it all.
Today, I’m healed, and this farm stands as a symbol of that journey. Polly’s Petal Patch represents not only remembrance, but growth, hope, and the beauty that can come from even the most difficult seasons.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s part of what makes Polly’s Petal Patch so meaningful to me. Farming and flower growing come with their own set of challenges, and one of the greatest obstacles has been Mother Nature herself. Weather is unpredictable—late frosts, heavy rains, extreme heat, and storms can undo weeks or even months of hard work in a matter of hours. Learning to surrender a bit of control and adapt has been one of the biggest lessons along the way.
Beyond the weather, there were also personal challenges. Starting this during a time when I was healing—both physically and emotionally—meant learning to pace myself and listen to my body. There were moments of uncertainty, doubt, and trial and error as I learned how to grow, harvest, and run a u-pick farm from the ground up.
Despite the struggles, every challenge has reinforced why I started. Each setback has been a reminder of resilience and growth—both in the garden and in myself. Looking back, those obstacles didn’t stop the journey; they shaped it, making Polly’s Petal Patch stronger and more meaningful with every season.
As you know, we’re big fans of Polly’s Petal Patch. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Polly’s Petal Patch is a u-pick flower farm and photography/event venue rooted in connection, community, and meaning. At its core, it’s a place where people can slow down, step into nature, and create something beautiful with their own hands. We specialize in seasonal (June-October), locally grown flowers and offer a true u-pick experience, allowing visitors to walk the garden, select their own blooms, and leave with a bouquet that’s completely personal.
What sets Polly’s Petal Patch apart is the purpose behind it. This farm was born out of love, loss, and healing, and it continues to grow with intention. Preserving agriculture and educating others on the importance of protecting nature is a major part of our mission. We want visitors—especially younger generations—to understand where their flowers come from, why local farming matters, and how caring for the land helps sustain both our environment and our communities.
In addition to the flowers, our farm is also home to animals, the majority of which have been rescued. They are an important part of our story and daily life at the farm, reflecting our belief in compassion, second chances, and responsible stewardship of all living things. Their presence adds another layer of connection and education for those who visit.
We’re known for our welcoming, heartfelt atmosphere and for growing with care rather than scale. Every bloom is grown from seed, and every guest is treated like family. Whether someone comes to pick flowers, celebrate a milestone, or simply enjoy a moment outdoors, Polly’s Petal Patch offers a sense of comfort and belonging.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the authenticity of Polly’s Petal Patch. It honors my grandmother’s legacy while telling a story of resilience, healing, and hope. Nothing here is rushed or mass-produced—everything is rooted in purpose.
What I want readers to know is that Polly’s Petal Patch is more than a flower farm. It’s a place where agriculture is preserved, nature is loved, animals are given second chances, and beauty is grown—even after life’s hardest seasons.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely. There are several resources that have supported me both personally and professionally as I have built Polly’s Petal Patch and continued to grow as a person.
Books
The Garden Primer by Barbara Damrosch has been a practical guide for learning how to grow with intention.
Podcasts
Tony Robbins has been a major source of business guidance and motivation. I even had the opportunity to attend one of his live events in 2024, which was transformative for my mindset and approach to both business and life.
Farming and Agriculture Resources
Three Acre Farm has been an inspiring resource, especially in showing how small-scale agriculture can be both intentional and impactful. Their approach reinforces my belief in preserving agriculture while growing thoughtfully rather than chasing scale.
Apps and Tools
Garden planning and planting calendar apps help me stay organized through each growing season.
Mindfulness apps such as Headspace support mental clarity and balance.
