Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Hernandez Turney
Hi Daisy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in Sanford by migrant parents whose dream was to see their children live out their dreams. With that comes pressure to be the best version of yourself. Naturally, I wanted to be successful in my studies. Growing up I worked in hospitality, in agriculture, and manufacturing jobs. Through these jobs I grew an interest and love in helping those navigating through the immigration system. I am now a paralegal and studying to become an attorney. Photography was always something I was passionate about, but asked myself every “what if” that I could come up with. One Christmas, my grandfather visited us from Mexico. Without even knowing that I needed the motivation, he gave us a speech about not allowing the fear of failure to stand in our way of fulfilling our dreams. After telling my mother about the conversation I had with my grandpa Ricardo, she gifted me a camera for Christmas that year, encouraging me to follow that passion. In her eyes, there was no failure in trying. Failure lied in not trying because of those “what if’s”. Thanks to that encouragement boost, I am now the businesswoman that I am.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe everyone has their stories and sometimes the odds that are stacked against you may feel solitary. One of my biggest challenges has been navigating everything on my own. I come from a very hardworking family but this leap that I took into photography has been a learning experience. As I learned to sharpen my skills, mistakes have been made. I had no one to show me techniques and the skills for this industry. Sometimes you can become your biggest critic and even feel the need to compare yourself. You begin to feel that you aren’t where you should be given your age and experience. Despite this, I’ve created friendships with other photographers and have curated my style of photography. This in turn has even generated a list families and clients who have returned for seasonal photo shoots. The community I’ve created has given me the self confidence to continue to learn and push myself to better my skills and expand the services I offer.
We’ve been impressed with Liseth Imaging Photography, LLC., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Like many other business owners, when we say small business; we truly mean it! I started my photography business with a camera, very little equipment, and began taking sessions in my spare bedroom or living room. While I continue to work towards providing the best services to my clients; my mission stands. I provide my clients with services that last a lifetime. Every year I look forward to the Christmas mini sessions, and start promoting in September/October because they’re a big hit. Each year I try to top the previous year, because the small details matter. It’s not just having the right backdrop, it’s about creating a story, and happy memories. My family, like many others, save photographs 10, 20, 30 years later. So whether it’s a baby’s first birthday and a cake smash, a christening, a wedding, or maybe because someone wants to capture a point in their lives, I am here to make their vision come to life and become a fond memory they could look back on.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I am very versatile because I enjoy listening to what my client envisions and we work together to make it possible. I am constantly pushing myself to learn new techniques, and have even been asked by my clients to consider videography. I work with other local businesses such as bakers and venues to make the client happy. For me, it’s important the client feels heard. So many of my sessions have been milestones such as engagements and weddings. I am a vessel that helps the client capture a moment in their lives.
