Exploring Life & Business with Danielle Harvey of Harvey Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Harvey.

Hi Danielle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I don’t consider myself your average 30-something. I was born to first-generation Italian-American parents in Brooklyn, New York in the late 80s, My family migrated south and settled in the Triangle when I was 10 years old. After graduating from Green Hope High School in Cary, I was awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship and accepted into Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte where I studied culinary arts.

After I graduated with honors, I returned home to Cary where I helped establish and run a boutique bakery in Apex. During my time in the hospitality industry, I honed my sales and networking skills, attending trade shows across the country, and even appeared on the Food Network Cake Challenge. I was a young professional with my mindset on building equity, so I purchased my first home in Cary shortly after graduating college.

Not long after that, my interest in real estate began to grow. Always thorough, I offered to job shadow a home builder in the little free time I had back then. I was a natural and quickly left my career in the kitchen for my true calling. In October 2014, I joined Epcon Communities as an apprentice. By 2016, I was on a stage in Ohio accepting the “National Sales Consultant of the Year” award – an honor given to the company’s top producer. I won the award again in 2017. While at Epcon, I began building meaningful relationships with the top real estate agents in the area.

After another successful year in 2018, I walked away from my onsite career and joined Keller Williams before moving to eXp Realty in Raleigh a short time after. The perfect blend of Yankee grit and southern charm, I work tirelessly for my clients. I take pride in my honesty, passion, and drive. When I’m not working, I enjoy eating and baking sweets, dog kisses, and quality family time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a long, bumpy, and windy road. My formal education is in the culinary field where I worked for a decade. I was comfortable and successful; it took a lot of nerve to leave what I knew, bet on myself, and try something I had no prior experience with. Having the self-confidence to leave a steady paycheck was challenging and I doubted myself at times.

I also experienced great personal loss at a time when I was working to establish myself in a new career. I struggled with balancing my personal and professional responsibilities when they both demanded so much from me. Shortly after founding my business, I lost my father-in-law to brain cancer, then later my own father to pancreatic cancer.

Work seemed insignificant at times, but both of my father figures were tremendously proud of the work I was doing. Their encouragement, even while battling their own mortality, was priceless.

We’ve been impressed with Harvey Realty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Harvey Realty just over two years ago after leaving a successful on-site sales career with the goal of creating a business that allowed me to better serve home buyers and sellers in the Triangle. I always work in the best interests of my clients to help them sell, build their dream homes or find the perfect existing home that best fits their needs. I’m young (33), enthusiastic, gritty, and personable.

I’ve worked to develop a name and brand that is synonymous with success, skill, and moxie. Having previously worked for a builder, I have an intimate understanding of the construction process and can better guide/advise my clients to avoid any hurdles that may arise.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Creativity, adaptability, and the importance of self-belief. During the pandemic, the real estate market in the Triangle never really slowed down, however how I began doing business evolved. The ability to identify new obstacles and having the flexibility and know-how to employ careful solutions allowed me to grow my business year-to-year despite the many challenges brought along by the Covid-19 crisis.
