Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Sprauve.
Hi Desiree, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story bridges two very different worlds: the high-stakes, global arena of Aerospace Supply Chain Management and the sacred, deeply intimate realm of Women’s and Maternal health and wellness. I call this honoring both my masculine and feminine sides. I’m a proud graduate of Howard University’s School of Business, where I earned my BBA in Supply Chain Management. From there, I spent almost a decade leading international projects and managing highly complex $390+ million dollar procurement strategies in industries like Automotive, Aerospace, and E-commerce—with roles at Fiat Chrysler, Pratt & Whitney, and later, as Head of Global Purchasing and Logistics at a Femtech postpartum product company.
Behind the scenes, I was battling debilitating menstrual cramps, intense work stress, and a profound spiritual awakening. That pain (and a persistent inner knowing) guided me toward the world of holistic wellness and birthwork. As a woman of Caribbean descent (St. Thomas, USVI and Jamaica), connecting with the healing wisdom of nature has always been second nature to me. We had herbal tea daily, my grandma rubbed aloe from her indoor garden on her face every night, and we rarely took pharmaceuticals. It made sense for me to explore how to truly nourish the mind, body, spirit, and womb naturally. I spent countless days crying and regurgitating in the bathroom stall at work, pulling myself together just in time to lead my next global risk management call. Like many women in Corporate America, I silently struggled with reproductive health challenges while excelling professionally.
In addition, circa 2017, I was increasingly being exposed to the horrific maternal mortality and morbidity rates for Black women here in America. Black women are 3-4x more likely to experience mortality in comparison to their white counterparts. One day as I scrolled through Facebook, I saw the story of Kira Johnson who tragically transitioned to an ancestor after the birth of her second son. Her untimely and massively unecessary death would subsequently change my life. I do not mean that in a hyperbolic way. I mean Kira’s story and her husband Charles Johnson’s testimony, literally changed my life. It truly put a fire under me, like no other. I saw myself and all of my friends in Kira’s experience. (Not to mention my best friend’s name is Kira). Her story felt so deeply personal and painful to watch. I had to do something.
In 2019, I officially answered the call on my heart and spirit: to serve women as a full-spectrum doula, yoga and meditation teacher, and holistic health educator. Since then, I’ve supported thousands of women and families through menstruation, pregnancy, miscarriage, postpartum, spiritual and emotional healing, and other sacred reproductive transitions via private consulting, courses, workshops, speeches, classes, and more. My approach is rooted in evidence-based care and ancestral wisdom.
I founded The Wellness You Desire® to be a bridge, where modern women, especially those of Black American, Caribbean, African, Indigenous, Latin American, Asian heritage, and more, can access holistic care that respects both science and spirit. My work is grounded in traditional herbal care, oral wisdom, education, yoga, meditation, whole foods nutrition, and cultural postpartum practices. It’s personal, it’s sacred, and it’s transformational. Guaranteed.
Whether I’m speaking at a conference as a highly-awarded public speaker and facilitator for corporations and higher education institutions or guiding a client through womb healing and childbirth education, I lead with compassion and a fierce commitment to intergenerational healing. My mission is simple: to help women reconnect with their bodies, reclaim their cycles, have healthier pregnancies and postpartum experiences, enhance the workplace experience, and return to the wisdom our grandmothers never got to fully express. This isn’t just wellness, it’s a movement. An awakening. And I’m honored to be your guide.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been an easy road. I deeply love the work I do AND stepping into it required real sacrifice and transformation. Becoming the woman I am today meant releasing the old version of myself, which inevitably comes with grief. Fortunately, it has been worth it and I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything.
Transitioning from a fast-paced, masculine-centered environment into the gentle, intuitive and feminine world of birthwork and women’s wellness demanded that I do my own spiritual and emotional work. That shift was not just about changing careers. It was about changing my life. I had to unlearn the idea that my worth was tied to job titles, income, or status. I had to release and shed. There are versions of me that had to die and be reborn. I had to heal and nourish myself. I had to remember that I am enough, just as I am. I certainly did not expect that! Birth is extremely sacred to me and I knew I had to do my own work before I truly stepped into the space.
Because I know the corporate grind so intimately, I can guide ambitious women and mothers with depth and compassion..This work is personal- based off experience and ancestral wisdom. That’s why it’s powerful.
When I first became a birth worker, I didn’t even realize I was stepping into entrepreneurship. I just knew I wanted to support women and mothers in a way that felt deeply aligned. Years later, I now fully embody the role of a social entrepreneur. I know the work I do will stand the test of time.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that the main challenge is rarely something external. The real work is in who you must become to meet the challenge. Obstacles are teachers. Storms don’t last. The sun is always present, even when it’s hidden by clouds. I’ve learned to trust that the light will return, and I help my clients do the same.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Charlotte, North Carolina is an incredible city. As someone from Brooklyn, New York, people are often surprised by how much I love it here, but Charlotte has everything I need (well, except my mom!).
The city offers an amazing variety of diverse cultural foods, vibrant museums (The Gantt is my favorite and it’s free on Wednesdays), Broadway shows, live music, beautiful parks, hiking trails, yoga studios, and plenty of events that bring together successful Black and Brown professionals. From dance parties to networking mixers, there’s always something happening. The weather is lovely most of the year, and the homes here offer so much more space than what I’m used to in New York.
What I like least? My mom isn’t here- and she has no desire to move down. Totally understandable, though, New York is still an incredible city!
