ELVIRA YANEZ, Founder & Clinical Director, Coast to Coast Bilingual Counseling
Elvira is a licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical addiction specialist with over a decade of experience in mental health and wellness. She earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Washington in Seattle and has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and families through life’s most challenging moments.
For six years, Elvira served active duty service members and their families as a mental health provider for the Department of Defense, gaining deep expertise in trauma-informed care, resilience, and culturally competent treatment.
As a Spanish speaking professional, Elvira recognized a critical gap in accessing qualified Spanish speaking mental health professionals —particularly the need for Spanish-language mental health services. This insight inspired her to open a bilingual mental health clinic in North Carolina. Today, her group practice provides inclusive, client-centered support to a diverse community, with a strong commitment to serving Spanish-speaking clients.
Elvira continues to advocate for equity in mental health care and leads her team with a mission to reduce stigma, increase access, and empower individuals through high-quality, compassionate treatment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am a first-generation American; both of my parents were born and raised in Mexico before immigrating to the United States, where they obtained legal status during President Reagan’s administration in the 1980s. I grew up in a middle-class household in Los Angeles, where attending college often felt like an unattainable dream. My parents were unable to fund my education, and they had limited knowledge of how to navigate the U.S. college system.
I was fortunate to have the support of an exceptional high school counselor, Ms. Charles, who believed in my potential and guided me through the college and scholarship application process. Through her mentorship and my perseverance, I earned a full-ride scholarship from The Posse Foundation, which made my college education possible and continues to shape the opportunities I have today.

What should we know? What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for?
Coast to Coast Bilingual Counseling provides high quality psychological services to adolescents, adults, relationships and families. We strive to provide optimal quality treatment in a comfortable environment. We accept a range of insurances, coordinate with appropriate medical professionals as needed, and offer virtual therapy services. Treatment can occur through individual psychotherapy or couple and family psychotherapy. Our therapists use empirically validated approaches to ensure high quality psychotherapy; therapy is individualized for each person and the specific needs that are presented.
What sets you apart from others?
Our focus is in Multicultural therapy, also known as multicultural counseling or cross-cultural therapy, is an approach to psychotherapy that recognizes and incorporates the cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds of patients into the therapeutic process. The aim is to provide more effective and respectful treatment by considering how cultural factors influence mental health and therapy outcomes. We have 7 therapists all from diverse backgrounds.

How do you define success?
I define success as the ability to lift others in the same way I have been supported throughout my journey. I am deeply grateful for the guidance and opportunities that have helped me reach where I am today. For me, true success is reflected in my capacity to offer that same encouragement and create meaningful opportunities for others.
