Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Sabourin.
Hi Erica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started college as a pre-physical therapy major, but I ended up switching paths after feeling overwhelmed by the science-heavy coursework. I earned my bachelor’s degree in business management and worked in a variety of roles, everything from a licensed insurance agent to an executive assistant for a hospital CEO. But I always knew I wanted to be closer to the people, working hands-on, helping them feel better and move better.
Eventually, I was brought full circle. I was prescribed physical therapy myself, and part of my rehab included Pilates. The connection was immediate. It brought back everything I loved with anatomy, performance, and the healing process. I realized I wanted to help others experience the same transformation I did. I got certified through the world-renowned Balanced Body program and became a comprehensive certified Pilates instructor. I’m now pursuing my NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist certification while running my own studio just down the road from my home in Zebulon, NC. I opened Align Pilates to bring high-quality movement training to East Raleigh and the surrounding community.
I enjoy working with clients who are managing chronic conditions like low back tightness, using Pilates to build strength and ease. I also love working with professional athletes, particularly football players, who find that Pilates complements their training and supports recovery. It gives them a chance to slow down, refine their movement patterns, and build the kind of body awareness, stability, and mobility that enhances their performance and longevity on the field.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Signing the lease and remodeling an old 1920’s building in two months was a whirlwind, but we are so grateful and proud of all the work put in. Especially to our contractor and all those who helped with late-night interior design decisions!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Align Pilates?
I specialize in observing movement and identifying what each body needs-whether it’s addressing asymmetries, movement inefficiencies, or compensation patterns. My deep love for anatomy shows up in how I teach, with a focus on precise, personalized instruction that meets each client where they are.
We offer real-time modifications so clients feel supported and confident in their movement. What sets us apart is the ability to teach true advanced Pilates in a spacious, personal setting, free to explore full-range of motion safely. Align Pilates is about approachable, high-quality training in a beautiful space, helping people find the ideal alignment for their own body so they can stay strong, mobile, and move with greater ease and comfort.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with sports, anatomy, and performance. I was a gymnast, but my favorite sport was flag football because tackle wasn’t an option! I used to watch football and dream about being one of the athletic trainers who ran out onto the field to help injured players. That passion stuck with me and by the end of high school, I had logged over 1,000 volunteer hours at a physical therapy clinic.
