Today we’d like to introduce you to Geraldine Brisbane Crooks.
Hi Geraldine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a native Charlottean who has been committed to improving the lives of scholars of all ages for more than 40 years. As the Founding Director of Brisbane Academy and Brisbane Tutoring Center Inc., our Team, with the support of our community and beyond, have been instrumental in educating thousands of young minds and inspiring a legacy that has made a significant difference to past, current, and future generations. I’m dedicated to seeing people be their best and firmly believe knowledge provides opportunities to fully experience life. My passion for education helped me to establish an internationally accredited school with the mantra, “If you love them…They will learn.”
Our priority and commitment focuses on providing a bully-free learning environment with qualified, caring instructors who taught according to each scholar’s style of learning in a safe space where they could develop both academically and socially. Since 1992, Brisbane Academy has been a state-licensed, fully accredited preparatory school for PreK through 12th grade.
In 2002, I established a international student/teacher exchange program with five adopted sister schools in South Africa. We also deliver school, medical and food supplies during our annual study tours. Hosting the learners and educators from Johannesburg and Cape Town also helped expand young minds and inspire them to achieve their greatest desires. Our Brisbane Academy scholars receive the same benefit as they build life long relationships and memories during their travel experiences in Africa.
As a Certified Transformational Life Coach since 2000, I endeavor to empower others to clearly identify and pursue their life’s purpose. I am grateful to have recently completed two levels of Holistic Healing certifications.
I earned a BA degree in Mathematics and a M.Ed in Education. I’m honored to have received numerous awards including the International Femtor Award, The Women of COLOR Award and The Sojourner Truth Award. I am also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
After much prayer and consideration, Brisbane Academy closed its doors as of June 2024 to allow me to focus on my health, family (including a new grandson) and expanding my Holistic Healing & Joy Coaching Initiatives. Our learning center and international exchange program are still operating and supporting minds and educational development both near and far.
I’m excited about this new season of my life and looking forward to continuing to support others in embracing and fulfilling their greatest potential.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were definitely life lessons along the way including fundraising, grantwriting, adapting to the Covid protocols, identifying staff members aligned with the vision and mission of Brisbane Academy to name a few. These lessons helped mold me into the person I am today and inspire me to be the best school administrator and educational advocate possible
