Exploring Life & Business with Jamilah “Jay” Worley of Timeless Creations by Jay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamilah “Jay” Worley

Hi Jay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been the organized, rational one in my friend groups and family. As a kid, I was the one who would strategize the logistics of getting somewhere—how we’d get there and what the plan was once we arrived. You remember that age of parent drop offs? Haha. So I’ve always been resourceful and loved connecting with people, creating experiences and just celebrating life.
As I grew up, I started noticing my knack for bringing both order and razzle dazzle to celebrations–on a spectrum of extravagance–whether an old school family reunion with matching t-shirts, youth church events, or banquets, I had the ideas. So many things are flooding my mind haha. I loved being on student council in middle school. I’d often see things that adults might miss, and though I wasn’t as seasoned, I quickly realized that when I dared to speak up, my suggestions did make a difference. At the event, I’d watch and see what I pitched to the committee or adults going well and annoyingly think “SEE???” as an “I told you” moment. In my family, I was the go-to person for helping plan trips and gatherings. When I only had kid money and most of it was inaccessible in a piggy bank haha, I could convince my family to come over to my house, oh gosh, calling them at work haha, giving each an assignment, be it food or decor, I’d have a theme, a time and a program, all for a purpose…and I never would buy a single thing but I told all these adults what I wanted and how. It should be noted I was the only kid in my family at that time haha. Let’s just say I knew it was something here. I really started to feel that spark of assigning roles and producing a moment.
In high school, I took on leadership roles in nearly every club I was in. So planning meetings and events, fundraising and celebrating became second nature to me. I always gravitated toward bringing people together for a good time—there was real value in that. Somebody would get to feel joy. That’s priceless. Then, during my time at NC State University, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Parents & Family Constituent Services. I helped plan large-scale events aimed at welcoming parents along for the ride as their students navigated their time at the university. I did that all 4 years and some summers, and it was during this time that I really honed my organizational skills in a different way and gained a sense of how to logistically plan and troubleshoot and resolve on the fly while hiding behind my “processing face”.
But it wasn’t just about the logistics; it was also about making people feel seen and heard. Like they mattered. Like they weren’t alone. I further developed my planning skills as an intern for the Office of Equal Opportunity at State, where I helped plan outreach efforts for two years, diving into the compliance side of things. I look back now, and honestly, I was one busy student! It’s kind of crazy to think of all the places I served in the capacity of planning. From my role as a Resident Advisor for 2 years of freshman honors students, where planning was absolutely crucial to their foundation and eventual success, to pledging the Mu Omicron chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, where I joined the special events committee, I really found my rhythm. My happy place. The amount of running around I did for my chapter, without a car on campus, to help produce a pageant in excellence, taught me that this was more than a passion—it was my ministry. I kept wanting to do it again and again. I remember dissecting particular elements and deciding how it could improve for next time. I did that as a Network Engineer too, in the process of becoming a SME for a software my team used daily…even if I didn’t make the suggestion, almost immediately I could tell you the potential impact and begin to break it down into digestible chunks for in depth analysis. I kind of like my brain in that way. I’m a proud processor.
When I saw how much joy events brought people, how they bonded over food, how forever memories were created, I knew this was something I wanted to gift people. So, after all those years of planning, coordinating, and celebrating people, Timeless Creations by Jay was born. It isn’t just a business—it is a culmination of everything I have worked for and loved since I was a kid. And to this day, I get the same joy out of seeing people’s faces light up at an event that I produced. When someone says, “I NEVER would have thought to do that” or “I couldn’t have done this without you” I know all the hours and back and forth aren’t in vain. It’s why I never want to stop. I’m committed to being a part of people’s best days of their lives and in those troubling ones, I want to help carry the load and bring comfort. Yes, sadly, I’ve planned a funeral or two.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Heck NO and YES. While they say nothing worth having comes “easy”, I do believe God is not the author of confusion and directs our paths, so in that way, it’s been smooth. I’ve literally always been who I am, meaning I’ve always wanted extra effort, additional thought, uniqueness and tailored to the person. Smooth. But event planning is a dog eat dog world. There are petty people in many industries, but it’s something savage about event planning haha. Rough. As cliche as it is, my life hasn’t been a crystal stair, I have fought to become me. I have fought my way out of circumstance. Chasing the life you want requires you trust the process and if you’re honest, patience isn’t always easy. One of my favorite things to say is “favor ain’t fair” and that’s so true! I love when it’s my favor I’m walking in…but I’ve had to watch a lot of people’s dreams come true while I was “still cooking” as the kids say. Rough. Even when the road has been a little curvy, after all, you do learn the most by making mistakes, and then toss in dream killers, dream stealers, doors closed or good ole uncooperative souls…wheeew, I remind myself of my faith and the things God says about me. That the LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. That a man’s gift opens doors for him, and brings him before great men. That He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. I then come from a gratitude space of, even if I never make my millions here, I’m rich because I’ve shown up for people when they needed me most. I’ve made someone feel seen and celebrated. I came along the journey with someone to share in being overwhelmed and just go through the motions together. Someone reflected on something I produced and felt incredibly special or not alone. They’ll remember that for years to come…that to me is beyond wealth. It’s Purposeful.

As you know, we’re big fans of Timeless Creations by Jay. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I made the decision to transition from Corporate America to fully dedicate myself to pursuing my passion for events and building a legacy around what truly inspires me. I’ve dedicated myself to curating experiences that reflect rich diversity and cultural significance of the communities I serve. I specialize in unique elements that resonate with my clients’ personalities and values. I want my clients to feel safe and understood. Hmm, I’m probably known for my advocacy. Clients appreciate my commitment to drilling down on an issue and my fierce follow up game. Vendors appreciate how hard I work and how thoughtful I try to be in the midst of so much happening. I’ve been told my personal approach sets me apart from the others. I hope everyone I collaborate with appreciates how I not only navigate logistics but that I do so thoughtfully and with genuine emotion. I’m committed to honoring and celebrating client’s stories. I’m pretty proud of my repeat clients! I’ve built a reputation of being inclusive. I’m proud to have helped so many experience a sense of connection and joy. Readers should know my brand is all about crafting events that reflect my client’s true essence. I offer fully customizable packages and have planned all types of large or intimate events. I work closely to understand the vision and turn it into a reality. I want your event well executed of course, but also deeply meaningful.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Hmm. “Life be Life’ing”, meaning life is so hard and everyone goes through so much. I don’t want to miss too many opportunities to make someone feel chosen. To make them feel special. I started doing this really long birthday prayer for those I love. Haha, some really appreciate it, some respond flippantly, I was waiting for this longgggggggggggg text. I feel especially connected to people on their birthday’s for some reason, having not had many great ones myself. It’s SO dope to me to reflect on how great someone is, encourage them by reminding them of all the things they are beasting at, thank them for choosing me to go through life with and round it out with a prayer for their upcoming year. It’s precious. Sometimes (most times) I cry as I write these messages. Honestly, they can take a while to form. For people to know Jay is out here on their day praying and manifesting for their wildest dreams and believing in God that it’ll come to pass, that matters to me. I often feel the focus for so many in the world is them and living their life, and while I understand boundaries are necessary, that burn out is real, and how you choose to live your life is indeed important, it matters to me how we show up for each other. I wish we would all find better balance and could bring back just a little bit of sacrifice and thoughtfulness towards others by remembering our lives are not simply “our own”.
