Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Haskins.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My current story starts after I saw an ad on Instagram. My family is large and growing, so when we travel, we find a place for all of us to stay together. I organize the trips and I saw how much we were paying to stay in Airbnb’s as a large group. I knew the hosts were making a lot of money, and I wanted to have my own one day. While we always enjoyed our stay, I saw there were some flaws that could have easily been fixed like crumbs/stains in the beds/sofa, large cobwebs, a broken chandelier. I knew if I were a host, I would make sure my units would stay clean so my guests would be comfortable. In May 2021, I organized a group trip for my husband’s college graduation. That’s when I really started considering purchasing a property to use for family vacations and to turn into an Airbnb while we were not using it. However, I always thought I had to purchase a place in order to have my own short-term rental. Then one day in June 2022, I saw an Instagram ad about having your own Airbnb without owning property. I visited the page of Suzie Agelopoulos and listened in on her 3-day webinar, and I was sold! It took me a while to get up and running, but in October 2022, I found a place to use for Airbnb and opened up November 2022. Today I have 3 short-term rentals I have listed on Airbnb, VRBO, and Booking.com.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been as smooth as I thought it would be. I thought I could avoid mistakes since I took courses on how to run a short-term rental. But even with learning from coaches who have already been through what I have, there were still issues I would never have thought would come up. Some struggles along the way include guests being locked out of the unit, pets pooping and peeing inside the home, and a guest walking into an uncleaned unit. Having issues has taught me how to problem-solve and learn from mistakes to prevent them from happening again.
As you know, we’re big fans of Haven Getaways LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
My work is managing short-term rentals. My job is to furnish the units, set up booking for the units, find great cleaners, communicate with guests, and handle pricing throughout the year. I’m most proud that I’m not only providing a place for guests to stay while they vacation but also in their time of need. A couple of families have used the Airbnb while visiting a loved one having surgery or admitted to the hospital for sickness.
What sets me apart from others is that I check up on my units regularly to make sure they are clean and everything is stocked and functioning properly. I’m even checking for cobwebs! If I’m not there, I have great cleaners who let me know what needs fixing or replacing.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Definitely, thank God for my family who came and stayed set up for me! My husband, sister, and brother-in-law helped set up 2 units in Hillsborough, NC at one time. They were even setting things up while I was working my full-time job. My husband played a huge role as he did most of the setting up furniture, tearing down boxes (there were so many boxes), hanging mirrors and pictures, changing out doorknobs and locks, anything you can think of. My parents went with me and stayed overnight in Charlotte, NC (a 2.5-hour drive) to shop, set up, organize, and take away boxes. My mother in law and father in law who came and helped me rearrange furniture and rearrange my storage unit. My sister came with me to Charlotte to get footage for the Instagram page. My brother and sister in law who supported my start up by loaning me money. My sister in law and younger brother who came to organize my cleaner’s closet. younger Also, all my supporters on Instagram who promote my places by liking and reposting.
My cleaners have also played a big role in keeping my units cleaned and communicating any issues to me; I always get great reviews about how clean the places are.
My landlord in Hillsborough who always works with me whenever I need anything fixed and has rooted for me from the beginning.
Also, my mentors who have led and continue to lead me through the business process by answering any questions I have and giving encouragement along the way. They taught me about how to control my mindset, which has helped me a lot whenever an issue arises, or I feel like giving up.
