Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Hamilton.
Hi Karen , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It’s quite the story, and I call it my “accidental job”… long story short, I was helping a friend in their nut business in Montana, but moved home to Minnesota and he encouraged me to start a nut business here. 10 years later I am known as the Nut Lady! Many adventures and lessons along the way!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not even close to smooth… challenges range from event organizers not knowing how to classify my business in the early days, to now balancing a full calendar with people wanting me at their events!
As you know, we’re big fans of Beyond Nuts. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am known as The Nut Lady, and I create all the recipes myself. Most proud of the moments when people frequently tell me that they attend any particular event just because they know I’ll be there! I would love people to know that they don’t have to wait for an event, I’ll ship those delicious nuts! 🙂
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice is rampant and even people who have never owned businesses before will tell you what you should or should not be doing…. smile, take it all with a grain of salt, and trust YOUR gut! I figured out pretty early that when issues come up at events, organizers appreciate solutions, not just complaints. 🙂
