Exploring Life & Business with Mia LaMotte of Mia LaMotte, Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia LaMotte.

Hi Mia , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I can still feel the dirt under my feet when I think back to those summers in Louisiana. I was that barefoot girl racing through the yards of my relatives, weaving between pecan trees and kicking up clouds of dust on my grandfather’s farm. The sun pressed down on my face, and the sound of my laughter rose and fell with the laughter of my cousins. In those moments, nothing else mattered. I wasn’t worried about who I should be or how I was seen. I was simply free.

I grew up in a small town in South Louisiana where family was the heartbeat of life. Sundays meant long tables covered with food, something always simmering in the kitchen, and card games that stretched deep into the night. The air was thick with stories, with teasing, with the kind of laughter that shakes your whole body. I learned early that hard work and togetherness were the way we survived, the way we thrived.

I also knew early that my path would look different. I watched my parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles labor in the fields, in small businesses, and in their homes. I respected their devotion, but something in me longed for more. Baton Rouge, just an hour away, looked like a big city to me then, a glimpse of a wider world I couldn’t stop dreaming about.

That wider world began to open when I went to an HBCU. There, I found myself surrounded by history, culture, and a community that stretched my sense of belonging. And yet, my world still felt small—until life cracked it wide open.

At 33, I became a widow. That loss unraveled me and pushed me across the country in search of something new. Soon after, I found myself in one of the top self-development programs in the world, where I was challenged to design life on my own terms. And years later, walking away from a 20-year toxic relationship became the final breaking point that turned into a breakthrough. It gave me the courage to step fully into the woman and the leader I had always imagined myself to be.

Those moments devastating, transformative, liberating called me into my work. Coaching, leadership, and transformation became not just my profession but my mission. Today, I help women around the world write their own rules, live out loud, and show up fully expressed.

My program, The Free to Be Me Collective, is where women come to release the roles, rules, and expectations that have confined them for years. Together, we peel back the layers of who they were told to be so they can step into who they truly are. Not the version shaped by others, but the one that has always been there, quietly waiting.

From those barefoot runs through my grandfather’s farm to guiding women across continents, my story has taught me this: freedom is not something you stumble upon, it is something you create. And sometimes it takes a lifetime of lessons to come back to what you knew as a child all along. I am free to be me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Looking back, I can see that my mindset and the victim mentality I carried at the time made some of those challenges last far longer than they needed to. One of the biggest hurdles I’m still navigating is the shift from being an employee to becoming an entrepreneur and business owner. It’s not just a change in what you do, it’s a complete transformation in how you think, how you make decisions, and how you see yourself. The beauty is, every step of that shift has made me more resilient, more resourceful, and more confident in my ability to create the life and business I truly want. Being an entrepreneur is the best personal development plan on the planet.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of *The Free to Be Me Collective*, our signature program that guides women through the process of dropping societal expectations, unlearning limiting beliefs, and embracing their truest selves. It’s more than a program. It’s a movement of women choosing freedom over fear.

For your readers, I want them to know: if you’ve ever felt like you were meant for more, like you’ve been living by someone else’s rules, or that your voice has been too quiet for too long. My work is about helping you break free from all of that. Whether through private coaching, international retreats, or immersive group programs, everything we offer is designed to help you step boldly into your power, your purpose, and your freedom.

How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t a finish line you cross. It’s an evolving journey. It starts with the inner work, the kind that’s never truly done. Success is deeply personal; it looks different for everyone, and it should. For me, it’s being able to say: *I have led a fulfilled life, I’ve made a meaningful impact, and I’m deeply grateful for the journey.*

It’s not just about accomplishments or recognition. It’s about who you’ve become in the process. If I can look back and know that I lived authentically, loved fully, and helped others transform their own lives, that’s success.
