Hi Monica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Monica Haynes Bowens. I am originally from New York City, but I’ve lived in Georgia, Texas, and Germany.. I currently reside in North Carolina. I am a spouse, bonus parent, author, and business owner. My professional career has allowed me the opportunity to work with or on behalf of children and families for over 20 years through various military, non-profit, and civilian careers. My work has positively impacted the lives of children and their families, individuals, and couples. Serving vast populations, I always strive to make a difference in the lives of others. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a Master degree in Human Relations. Years later, I decided that I could be more effective if I expanded my efforts to support others by formally incorporating social work, which I believed would allow me to have a more direct and personal impact. Therefore, I obtained a Master degree in social work and became a professional life coach. I am currently a licensed therapist in North Carolina and a professional Christian life coach (PCLC). Additionally, I absolutely love to travel, and I frequently encourage others to go out and explore this world. My affinity for travel is what led me to become a self-published author when I created a travel planning journal; further, I started a travel consultant business known as A Key to Travel. One day, I would like to combine my love of travel with my passion for helping others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am a planner by nature, so the initial process to get to wherever I am now has been thought out. However, even the best plan can have hurdles to overcome. Along the way, I have found the need to reconsider my marketing approach, diversify the platforms I use to provide telehealth, and increase my knowledge of business and finance. My background, as described previously, is in the social services field, so expanding my understanding of business outside of a non-profit has become a major necessity. Doing this takes a lot of research, networking, and utilization of community programs and resources. Though I tend to operate in a structured and organized manner, having the ability to be flexible and to pivot has proven to be a skill that has helped to sustain my progress

Bowens Counseling Services, PLLC is a professional and licensed counseling private practice business that specializes in helping clients overcome their challenges, achieve their personal goals, and improve their capacity and productivity. Via tele-health, this service is available for individuals who live in the state of North Carolina. The long-term goal is to offer areas that include therapy as well as consulting, mentoring, and coaching.

I like helping people discover and develop the best version of themselves in ways that empower and motivate them to accomplish their goals. I am down to earth and open-minded. A few of my areas of focus include coping with grief and loss, career difficulties, adjusting to life changes, caregiver issues, stress, effective communication, identifying a life purpose, increasing self-esteem, women’s issues, and team building

My intention of starting a private counseling business is to help clients overcome their challenges, achieve their personal and/or professional goals, and improve their competence, capacity and productivity. I envision a community where growth and success are uplifted due to its members balanced emotional and mental well-being. My mission is to provide professional, and highly effective services. I believe that people have the ability to make positive changes to their life if they are affirmed and supported. Bowens Counseling Services, PLLC strives to be this motivating force for others.
