Exploring Life & Business with Nicole Tatum of CTB Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Tatum.

Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was on the journey of becoming a barber in 2016-2017. My clients knew me as Cole The Barber! In 2018, I designed my first T-Shirt that said: “Hustle Hard, Stay Humble.”

At this moment, I didn’t have a brand name but the launch was successful with the support of friends and family. After that, I decided to kick start a brand with no blueprint.

Fashion has always been a passion so I was willing to do whatever it took to learn the ins and out of this industry. It was countless hours of learning, watching videos, and actually implementing the skills I had learned. In April 2019, CTB Clothing Co. had launched its first collection. We started with an e-commerce store plus social media accounts.

We started building our online presence. It was time to let the community know our message so we started doing pop-up shops in Raleigh Area in 2020. Our community started to grow more locally so we started to become a business vendor in-store with local retail stores in the area.

This year we are doing pop-ups in Greensboro, Charolette, and outside of NC to gain more awareness.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yes, the journey has been humbling. It’s so much more with having a brand than clothes. Our main struggles were with the inventory at the beginning.

We make all our custom garments so it was hard to know how much to order so we wouldn’t have leftover stock after the collection had been released.

The second struggle was testing designs and colorways that adapt to our audience. Once you notice it’s not gaining traction make an adjustment and stay consistent.

As you know, we’re big fans of CTB Clothing Co. LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
CTB Clothing Co. LLC is a retail company that offers unisex premium urban wear to the community with uplifting vibrations.

We’re not only a lifestyle clothing brand. It’s a mentality! CTB stands for “Chase The Bag” and our motto is your bag doesn’t have to be filled with just money. It can also contain any dreams or goals you are working towards in life.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The best lesson learned is to invest in more expensive garments instead of cheap ones because it’s a representation of your brand.

The more expensive garments will have a lasting impression on your customers. Once they have your product on it will give them another level of confidence.

This will bring more customers to your brand with word of mouth plus build trust since they know the level of quality your brand offers.
