Exploring Life & Business with Shirria McCullough of Mental Wellness Clinical Counseling and Services, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirria McCullough.

Hi Shirria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my social work career in 2009 following graduation with my BSW. I then went back to school and obtained my Masters in Social Work and became licensed in 2014. I did clinical work part time from 2014 to 2021. During the pandemic, mental health awareness increased, as did the need for therapist. As a result, I pivoted into private practice in February 2022. I’ve enjoyed guiding and supporting the mental health journey of others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My entrepreneurship journey in private practice has been pretty smooth which I attribute to previous experience and having a network of other providers I can reach out to. However, navigating insurance and how sometimes coverage or lack of coverage can interfere with treatment, or prevent treatment. Additionally, the stigma of mental health interferes with the therapeutic relationship.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mental Wellness Clinical Counseling and Services, PLLC?
