Tresca, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Tresca! I’ve always been a super-talkative, outgoing, energetic & bubbly spirit. I absolutely love reading, writing, music, & travel, but none of that compares to my faith & my family. Blessed, since birth – I’m of the belief that God & I have an amusing relationship. For as long as I can recall, I’ve prayed for things in my life to be or go a certain way…God laughs…then makes things turn out better than I could’ve ever imagined for myself! That’s the way I see it. I live an amazing life with my handsome husband (of over 22 years). We have 2 hilarious kids, our son & daughter (both, in college). We have 4 crazy-rotten dogs. Last, but not least – I have my own giant, awesome GUIDE dog! Because of a colorful-cocktail of rare eye conditions, I’ve been living my best legally-blind life for almost 30 years. I earned my BA (magna cum laude) in Professional English & planned to write through to a ripe old age. I didn’t even hear God chuckling, until 2017. I was sitting on the floor, taking off my shoes…and my feet DISAPPEARED! Until that remarkable day, my eye diseases had reliably delivered on their promises of only gradual sight loss, over the previous several years; nothing as sudden & traumatic as invisible feet! I do so remember going to bed for the next many nights, praying that I might wake to the familiarly awkward & comfortably compromised way I was accustomed to seeing my world around me. Yet, God was snickering, up there, in the clouds. I felt devastated that I could no longer function as I had, even just a week before that dreadful diminishing. It was all I could do, to begin seeking out those things, I might still be able to truly enjoy! The reading was tough; the writing was worse. The music, the travel, the getting-out & chatting-it-up with people…those dear parts of my heart were unscathed. I very specifically asked God for a simple means of incorporating these remaining few joys into a fulfilling new way of life, to accompany my writing. By now, you can probably guess God’s reaction. Yep, I figure He must’ve laughed until tears at that request because I vividly remember it rained the entire next week! Long-story-short, I went to massage school, well-knowing how incredibly difficult the mere thought of little-to-no-talking, to deliver an hour plus massage in a dimly lit room would undoubtedly be for me. Still, God had a plan! I shined through the program, made a bunch of friends, got great grades, I discovered a lot more about my new level of sight, I acknowledged my increased needs, I advocated for myself, I embraced new abilities, I got my NC state license…the massage one, not the driver’s one. Turns out, the massage license was the only one I needed to get me on the road, to take me where I’ve always wanted to go! I launched Carolina Chair Rub, LLC in September 2018. Carolina Chair Rub provides Heavenly Chair Massage Relaxation On-Site for Work & Event Locations! Prior to the pandemic, we primarily serviced The Triad area. Today, Carolina Chair Rub services Central, Western, & Coastal North Carolina! Many of my friends from massage school were first to join, but now Carolina Chair Rub has over 40 Licensed Massage Therapist Independent Contractors across North Carolina! Carolina Chair Rub serves as a major lead-generator, as we introduce local Contractors & highlight their individual practice locations, so that crowds of massage-loving guests can enjoy their services, long after we’ve packed-up our massage chairs! We accommodate extra small to extra large groups, at flat-rates, with clear & upfront pricing! For this, Carolina Chair Rub is steadily growing, servicing government, healthcare, educational, financial, manufacturing, legal, & more industries – you name it! As the Lead-Therapist & owner of Carolina Chair Rub, I am so BLESSED to attend every appointment! For the past eight years, I’ve been traveling to countless North Carolina cities, meeting & getting-to -know so many marvelous people! Sometimes, I’ll sit back & listen to soft music playing, while reflecting upon my journey to now. The comical bond I share with My Creator is a reassuring understanding. Even when you think you know what you’ve got & when you think you know what you want…God knows BETTER!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say that the pandemic was difficult FOR EVERYONE. Covid changed everything. It really impacted the massage industry & caused a lot of uncertainty about whether we’d be able to resume doing what we love! I recall asking myself, “How is it possible to social distance AND provide chair massage for a bunch of people in public settings?” God had the answer, as usual… “Peace. Be still.” So, that’s what did. We just waited it out, with the rest of the world.

Think about where you’d like your business to be headed, but don’t fixate & obsess…let as much of its growth, as you can allow, to occur organically; if you force it & stretch it prematurely, you might just BREAK your precious business! Be patient. All customers/clients are not for you…there are enough to go around! Be humble & don’t sell…people don’t really like to be sold. Let them come to you. Buyers are sometimes liars!
