Exploring Life & Business with Whitney Middlebrooks of Black Luxe & Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Middlebrooks. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Born and raised in High Point, NC, Whitney has always been fascinated with technology, music, and art. She showed considerable interest in black media and culture at a young age. She immersed herself in documentaries and information about black history, which further deepened her passion for black culture and advocating for social justice. She has over 10 years of experience working professionally in some capacity of high-level communication, marketing, design, and community outreach. Her academic background is in Graphic Design, Digital Marketing, and Strategic Communication. Desperately needing an outlet to express herself and create change, she launched Black Luxe & Company in January 2020. Black Luxe & Co. is an integrated social impact and design studio that delivers innovative and advanced digital solutions. Whitney’s work is a culmination of her life experiences, understanding of what drives human behavior, and developing sustainable marketing strategies that create change. She hosts the largest black-owned business expo in High Point, NC. The Black Luxe Expo is a one-day exposition spotlighting the best black-owned businesses. Collectively, working with over 400 black-owned businesses from eight participating states. The 4th Annual Black Luxe Expo will be on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Come out to shop, eat, drink, and party, all while celebrating black entrepreneurship and the culture!

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship has been a rewarding endeavor, but it has come with some obstacles. I am still working full-time while running my business, so I had to develop a clear action plan that helps me balance the two, such as taking only a few projects and clients and finding a way to balance my personal and professional work and life, meeting customers’ unrealistic demands that were not including the scope of work. There have also been financial obstacles – as a new business owner, I fund events, and many expenses come out of pocket. But overall, it is still rewarding, and I enjoy my work. I am looking forward to growing, evolving, and allowing my business to grow and change as needed.
