Today we’d like to introduce you to Wilnie Angibeau-Hunter.
Hi Wilnie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started cooking for friends and coworkers during the winter of 2020 and received amazing feedback. That experience really motivated us to take things to the next level and make it official—so the food truck was our next big step together. Later, we had the opportunity to open a brick-and-mortar location at RCCC, which was an incredible experience for about three years. Unfortunately, we had to close due to a drop in student enrollment and a lack of campus traffic.
A little about me—I was born in Haiti and raised in New York, and I moved to Salisbury, NC after getting married in 2015. My background and experiences really influence the food we serve today—it’s a blend of authentic flavor, culture, and community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has taught us something valuable. When we first started, there was a lot to learn about running a food truck—permits, scheduling, supplies, and managing everything ourselves. Later, when we opened the brick-and-mortar location, we faced challenges with student enrollment dropping and a lack of consistent traffic, which eventually forced us to close that chapter. It was disappointing, but it also pushed us to refocus on what we do best—serving great food and connecting directly with our community through the food truck. Every setback has helped us grow stronger and more resilient as business owners.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Kreyol Flavors?
Our business is all about bringing people together through authentic, flavorful food. We specialize in serving Caribbean-inspired dishes that reflect my Haitian roots, blended with the bold, comforting flavors I grew up with in New York. Everything we make is cooked with care, using fresh ingredients and recipes that tell a story.
What really sets us apart is the love and culture behind every plate. We don’t just serve food—we share a piece of our heritage and create a space where people feel welcomed and connected. Our goal has always been to make our customers feel like family, whether they’re trying our food for the first time or they’re regulars who know their favorite order by heart.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the community we’ve built. We’ve grown through word of mouth and support from people who truly believe in what we do. Even after facing challenges, like closing our brick-and-mortar location, our passion hasn’t changed. We’re committed to bringing authentic flavor, great service, and positive energy wherever our truck goes.
What I want readers to know is that our food is made with purpose—it’s more than just a meal. It’s about culture, connection, and creating experiences that remind people of home, family, and good times.
Any big plans?
We’re really excited about what’s ahead. Our main goal is to keep growing the food truck and sharing our food and culture with even more people. We’ve learned so much over the past few years, and every season brings new opportunities and connections.
In the future, we’d love to have our own restaurant when the time is right. For now, we’re focused on enjoying the food truck during the season, meeting amazing customers, and building our brand. On a personal note, I’m also enjoying a new chapter as a first-time mom to my 15-month-old son—it’s been such a blessing learning to balance both motherhood and business ownership.
We’re taking things one step at a time, growing with intention, and staying committed to serving great food and building community wherever we go.
